Even Freddie Maggard said the media has held back over their criticism of Stoops until now. UK's recruiting success has been the only thing that has held back the media until now. This years team is the majority of Stoops' recruits. He cant hid behind Joker's recruiting failures any more.

What's going to be interesting is how the Freddie Maggards of the world - who have spent four years bashing Joker and praising Stoops/Marrow -react when the next guy comes in an talks about needing a major talent upgrade,

Winning 6 games at UK at this point in a rebuild should not be a problem. Heck all you have to do is win 3 of the OOC games and go 3-5 in the SEC. How many other programs consider this a successful season? That's even letting him slide on his complete domination by UofL the last 3 years and likely a 4th. At most schools, 4 straight losses to your in-state rival is AUTOMATIC grounds for removal.

The UK coach has the luxury of LOW expectations. That makes Coach Stoops situation here even more pitiful.

Smashcat and catben make good points here, there is no way to sugarcoat or spin these 2 observations. The second half performance and the 6 win mandate can't be danced around.

Perhaps the coaches should start recruiting smarter players. That way we can begin a just win 5 and have a high APR mantra.

Why should the media show UK any mercy after our loss to USM? Coach Stoops and his assistants should know what they need to recruit to make UK better and competitive, so that is what they should do. That's what they get paid the "Big Bucks" for, and the dumb-a$$ buyout. Just produce, earn your money, and the media and definitely the fans, who watch and pay hard earned money to see your cluster-_ _ _ _, will be on your side.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

They were even talking about the collapse on two different Dallas local radio shows. They didn't talk in detail, just a quick 30 second mention followed up by laughing.

Kentucky ran 14 plays in the second half of their 25 point collapse to Southern Miss. I don't even know how you do that on purpose.

— SPENCER HALL (@edsbs) September 4, 2016
The 11th team in the Nation ran 12 plays in the third Qtr against the 4th team in the Nation and not many more in the fourth Qtr. They finished with 60 or so plays to Florida State's 93. At times it happens to really good teams

A loss to USM in year four of Stoops' tenure is absolutely inexcusable. It's their coach's first year with a new OC, who Stoops deemed to be unfit for the job here. Honestly, I think the media has been more kind to him since the loss than he deserves. But, there are two huge elephants in the room - the absurd buyout, and the fact that the idiot that gave Stoops the absurd buyout would be hiring another coach.... I would rather keep Stoops that have Barnhart flail about trying to hire another coach.

If you could travel back in time to the Stoop's hiring - only to learn that things would be no better in year 4 - how would that make you feel? That we hired the right guy?

Because that's exactly where we stand.

Like your post, except that closing statement.Stoops has shown that he is not the right fit time and time again, and hopefully Barnhart as learned enough to find a suitable replacement.

there were better options passed on by AD prior to Stoops. didn't throw in towel quick enough on joke and didn't take advantage of coaches avail below the going rate at the time. he needs to be held accountable.

Probably just as sure as some of us here are that you will make visits to every opponents forum to talk crap about UK, right? Odds are about the same.

Never went to UF forum and have no intention. Everything I said was proven accurate on the field. UK is not any good at football and I base that on how they perform.

Stoops has shown he can coach moreso than Barnhart has shown he can hire coaches

as bad as it has been & as bleak as it looks I'd rather Stoops stay our coach than he be fired & the present AD get a chance to hire a FOURTH head football coach at UK

I'm by no means here to defend Mark Stoops but what you said isn't true. We are better without question better than we were in 2013.

Why not go to the UF forum? Guessing you probably won't be visiting the Bama forum either, huh? Just make sure you get to the NMS and Austin Peay forums though.

Only one thing to do, go beat Florida or win 4-straight against SC, Vandy, MSU and Mizzou.

That's what I don't think a lot of people are comprehending - if Stoops gets canned, it's not going to be an exciting or inspiring coach that Barnhart hires to replace him. He's going to go on the cheap because of the buyout and he's not going to take anyone that has even a shadow on their resume.

The sad thing is that most of the media are still handling this with kid gloves. Watch the press conference and there are zero tough questions or attempts at holding Stoops accountable for losing to a team with a decided disadvantage at 95% of the positions on the field (not to mention breaking in a first year head coach and offensive coordinator of their own on the road in the SEC). We were playing against a bunch of undersized, two-star, power 5 rejects, yet oddly enough we still have many fans saying that somehow the problem is recruiting. I guess the Shannon Dawson angle isn't holding much water anymore so we've shifted our blame elsewhere (even though we were playing against a school that hasn't out-recruited us a single time in the history of their program) but I digress.

Even Mark Story mentioned yesterday in his column how he's a bit surprised that instead of seeing anger and calls for change/improvement, he's mainly seeing apathy much like what we saw at the end of the Joker experiment.

As fans, we have no defense for any type of criticism whether it comes from media, rival fans, or any other outlet. Simply put, we've continued saying that we are rebuilding, "wait for Stoops to get his guys", etc. Well that time came last year and even more so this year. Last year didn't go well and this one certainly seems to be off to a shaky start. Until something changes, we just have to sit back and take the criticism because there really is nothing we can say back.

For what little tiny bit it's worth, that is exactly how my UK friends and family are reacting.

Go dig Tim Woodburn up, guy had a pair and was not afraid to go after anyone regardless of their status in the UK network. I miss Tim, IMO he was the best media person here now and before.

So your going to compare FSU to S. Miss???

And that stat was just their 3rd quarter snaps. We had 14, in the entire 2nd half. Its mind boggling.

If we'd lost on some bad luck, USM playing over their heads, or just came up short due to inexperience - I could live with that. USM is a really good team, with a really good QB; just without name recognition.

But none of that happened. We let them run 2 plays over and over, without coaching adjustment, limiting our offense to 14 snaps in a half; blowing a 35-10 lead. THATS what makes it such a bad loss.

We do major talent upgrades.

The dline, linebackers and oline are not SEC caliber right now.

If we are going to be a solid team it starts in the trenches.

There are thousands of athletes who play RB and DB - real teams get the big uglies too.
