Someone close to my family has been on pain medicine for a long time.

In the last year when they first filled their prescription it had an adverse effect physically. Extreme itchiness and they flail around involuntarily. Are these normal responses or are they going nuts?

The family is seeing a Dr tomorrow. I know it's driving the spouse crazy. I think she's going in with her husband to see his Dr this week.

Got me convinced I'll never take anything more than Tylenol or ibuprofen for pain relief.

Anyone know if this is normal for someone on those heavy duty meds?

AC. Yes on both accounts. Now are you talking twitching or do you mean literally flailing? Twitching yes ... throwing yourself around the bed no.

I hope you have a good pain management doc. There are options. I'll also say the flailing (if it is that severe) could be signs of abuse.

I've suggested the family seek the help of a different specialist in our town. We'll see how that works.

My wife complains of itchiness when she takes her Percocet. She takes benadryl with them and it helps, but now she has become used to them and it doesn't help so much. Depending on how severe her pain is she will take codienne and doesn't make her itch. But severe attacks and it's 2 Percocet and benadryl and hope the pain lessens enough for sleep.
