I get ear infections pretty easy since I burnt a hole in my eardrum.
I can go to a doc in the box in NJ slap down 150$ & it will cover most if not all procedures, I go to the one here in WV they have to bill me . Why is that ? I have pretty good insurance but I dont get my bills on a regular basis because I travel. To me it makes absolutely no sense.
Couldn't get into my doc while home .

Can't they do a graft to fix the hole?

Yes , I went to Dr.krous & he said the procedure is about a 50/50 chance of working & would miss about 6 to 8 weeks work , so I elected not to at that time ..
FYI, my oldest son was three back in 76 when he fell with a qtip in his ear perforating his ear drum. The docs wouldn' do anything at the time until he got older. Of course he had to wear shower caps to go swimming, take showers or baths. I think he was around 10 when he got a bad ear infection. One of the great things about the ear infection, the ear drum repaired itself. He was a water dog too. He had already gone off the high dive at Kreps pool at 3. He was fearlous.

Most likely, the doc in the box did not accept your insurance and was cash only. The WV physician billed your insurance. If it's a WVU affiliated physician, you can sign up online and pay your bill. If you call, and pay over the phone they will give you 20% discount if you pay it in full...

What I’ve learned from this is that I should avoid burning holes in my eardrums.

I have broken a few bones & have hurt myself all over my short chubby body , but the worst pain I can remember is a ball of burning metal going in my ear , its happened before a few times just never went that deep
..the extreme pain is quick & leaves in a couple seconds but I promise it will make a person bury his head in a icy mud puddle...

I'm frequently frustrated by medical billing. On multiple occasions I've paid anticipated co-pays up front, only to find that insurance ended up covering it. I get my refund of the co-pay in about a year. I've also been billed for things that insurance already paid. I've pointed out to the offices that double billing is fraud. Oh, they'd probably refund what I paid, but it would take a year.

This is a big part of what I think is broken with the medical system in the US. It's not that the medical providers are bad, but the billing and insurance interactions are severely messed up. If I go to a hospital that my insurance company labels as a preferred provider, how is it possible that someone I can't choose, like my anesthesiologist, isn't automatically on the preferred list? How is it that the hospital has no earthly idea what the

I had a piece of hot metal burn through a leather glove and start on my hand. I remember that being painful, and I got free of it quickly. I can't imagine that in my ear. Ouch.

@mule_eer it's so frustrating for people like me , I get home once a month if I'm lucky & then to go thru medical bills is stupid ....hell I dont understand 1/2 of what's being charged & whom im paying it to ...I disagree with the ACA but I would think streamlining the billing process would cut cost tremendously...
