Wondering if he was asked to switch positions at the beginning of summer work outs and decided no?
My thoughts too. I think it's highly probable that he was given the chance to impress at TE with the option of moving to the OL if it wasn't working out. Then when the move came, he bolted. Probably had a lot to do with his recruitment as well. Oh well, good luck to the young man.
Had nothing to do with position. Like Nate Bruce, he lost the love to play football any longer.
Does this open up a spot for a guy in the portal or was this a move towards 85 for fall that was eventually needed?
I haven’t checked recently, but I believe we were two over after the Mississippi State DB came on board.

No, it's his nephew Mega Kumstein. They are both members of the Kumstein family of Intercourse, Pa.
if that is the case, there isnt any room to be recruiting in the portal as they are going to need more to quit. the people who were going to enter the portal already did that in the spring window. the players who graduated and moved on are off the roster, so now looks like a couple more are going to have to quit before the season starts. probably why we have not heard any portal news for a while. we seem to have an abundance of players ins some positions and a bit short on numbers in others.
