One of my favorite quotes, erroneously attributed to Orwell or Churchill, is this:
"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
My favorite episode of Band of Brothers is Day of Days. I watch it at least twice a year. And every time I watch it I try to put myself in that situation, when the planes are approaching.
I can't even begin to imagine what that must have been like.
Many, many lives have been sacrificed so that we may enjoy the freedom we enjoy. And I am truly forever grateful.

Not sure what i would have done but there would have been a huge load of doo in my pants while i was doing it. **** was wild. My grandpa fought in ww2, korea and vietnam. Lots of fighting in the 55 years he lived. Found his military papers when my grandma died. Said his ship that was carrying him to france for the war got torpedoed by the germans. Even my dad had never known that

My son's Junior ROTC class placed 3,600 flags at my county's Veterans Cemetery in Goshen, NY. As one of only 2 seniors and officers, he got his picture in the local paper. Unfortunately, they weren't able to march in the anual Memorial Day parade. I really missed that.
