We hope that you find what you wished for under your Christmas tree tomorrow morning. I think NU's basketball team has already given us more than we expected as a gift this season. As for the football team, I guess we can look at the Class of 2023 -- the highest ranked Northwestern class of the Rivals era -- as a present we got to open a little early.

but I will cite my own statement from November 20th, when we were 4-0...

"Unless we play Auburn in Mexico, we should only lose 1 game (at most) in the non-conference.
Our opponents are weak."

The win at Michigan State was nice, offsetting the unexpected disaster versus Pitt.

So on balance, the Wildcats are meeting my expectations.

Still, its tough to anticipate where we'll finish in the conference, given the lack of quality opposition so far.

Everyone has seen that NU is playing above expectations because our defense (with one exception noted) has been phenomenal. Our numerous large margins of victory and our increasing team rankings are further objective evidence. But just because we had the same record as PWB expected, we just meet his expectations. No guarantees for the future, but it’s a misguided way to look at our season thus far. Sole reliance on one statistic, whether intentionally or unintentionally, can cause a distorted opinion.
