A full on brawl just broke out at the end of the UW Michigan game and Howard threw the first punch. Wow it was really ugly.

I just watched it live Howard is a sore loser and this isn’t the first time I’ve seen him have an issue in the handshake line I’m pretty sure he had an issue with turgeon last year I guess my dad was right that he was an *** when in the 90s my dad saw him in a Bloomingdale’s that he worked at and tried to get an autograph and he acted like he was too good for that.

Howard started the entire thing and from what I saw in addition to him there were far more punches thrown by Michigan players. They’re going to have a lot of suspensions coming.

Apparently he was not happy that WI took a timeout with 15 secs to go. They also took one with 48 secs to go.

The video. Hard to see Howard keeping his job if UM wants him gone:

Howard and Gard had words (not punches) in their first meeting this year also.

Totally unnecessary timeout by Gard. Then Juwan makes an *** out of himself by trying to make a point. You want another underperforming B1G team look no further than Big Blue.

In a sane world a serious institution of higher education would fire him, or any other employee, for something like this. But that ain’t happening.

Big time trouble for Michigan!
Believe it or not, there are people on a few Michigan boards justifying Howard's first punch saying it was warranted because one of the Wisky assistants touched / put his hands on Howard. They fired that old POS Woody Hayes for the same thing and everybody over the years have roasted Woody for it. Why is this any different and this is not the first time Howard's had anger issues

Didn't watch but supposedly Mich was pressing to the end vs Wisconsin reserves. So either play/coach /use timeouts to the end or let the clock run. Both sides.

He should be fired for that. Michigan has no excuse not to fire him. Completely disgusting.

Howard sounds like such a jerk that he’d probably kick Darius Rucker in the shin.

He told Turgeon that he was going to kill him.

Am not a fan of the immediately post-game handshake lineup ritual anyway. Right after a closely contested game, emotions are still on high and the wrong word or even look can set things off. College hockey, for instance, has a tradition of ritual handshakes at end of a weekend series -- but that occurs after even a brief cooling-off period of a minute or two. Makes a difference.

Not taking sides here. Wisky's late timeouts had a bad look but nothing excuses Howard's idiocy. I agree that severe conference (if not U of M) sanction is called for.

It was more of an open handed push than a punch and it was clearly in response to something. Gard always struck me as a bit of an *** and his assistant had no business talking crap. I think both sides were at fault there. But it’s still a bad look for everybody involved.

Watching it again, it looks like a Wisconsin assistant aggressively grabs a UM player provoking the push.

He was defending himself 100% in his presser and was totally unapologetic. He brought up the TO but he still had his starters in pressing the subs the Wisky coach just brought in the game. Plain and simple - Howard was POd about the thumping.

But the bottom line - The Michigan HC - who is supposed to be setting an example for his young players - threw a punch. Repeat one more time - threw a punch. Sickening and he should be history. But come to think of it, he's a typical "Michigan Man."

I just reviewed comments on twitter and I’m surprised to see the number of people who are defending Howard. The typical tweet in support of him relies, in the absence of any evidence, on a narrative that somehow Gard provoked Howard. Somehow from seeing two guys jawing at each other they can miraculously tell that Gard’s mouthing off was worse than Howard’s and that it excused Howard taking it to a different and inexcusable level. We really do live in the era where everyone appears to have their own “truth”.

Even if that were true, Howard had his hand on the Wisconsin coach near the beginning of the clip above, so if "putting your hands on somebody" is an excuse (and I suppose it may be in some situations - not necessarily this one), then I guess Wisconsin was justified touching him too. It's so ugly that the handshakes, which was always taught to me as good sportsmanship even after an unpleasant loss or easy victory, is marred by stuff like this.

I’ll say that Gard did stop Howard and instigate the verbal discussion…. But that’s nothing controversial or anything that warranted a physical assault.

There were 4 seconds left in the 10 second clock, and Gard took a time out to reset the 10 seconds for his team on the floor made up entirely of reserves. And there's a problem with him doing that? Not in my book. That's called coaching. As for someone above claiming that Gard stopped Howard and initiated the conversation which escalated, how do you know that? You could hear what Howard was saying to Gard in the line when he had a mask on?

We shall see what kind of commissioner that Mr. Warren really is with his decision on the imposition of discipline. There is NO JUSTIFICATION WHATSOEVER for throwing a punch. And Howard is a repeat offender in the context of post-game antics with another coach.

If Fitz was B1G commissioner they’d have to take a lap around the arena while holding hands.

Michigan and it's fanbase will always make excuses for themselves. They and Ohio State live in their own world. If it brings wins it is excused. Fake classes or bad behavior are forgiven as long as you win. Inexcusable behavior but how will it be handled...guessing how it will

Frankly, neither coach makes a particularly good impression in that video.

Howard has to go. He had an initial interaction with the Wisconsin Head Coach, was separated and then charged forward to go punch the Wisky Assistant coach setting off the brawl between the teams. This is all on him.
