I sense the Bump this thread when Indiana sucks is going to be very prolific into the next few seasons. Love it for the Loosiers!

Interesting. Pitino says IU should be all in for Coach Beard per Twitter.
Beard got effing TTU to a Final 4. Let that sink in. Reread it if you have to. We have a coach that has zero tourney wins. And I like Pope and think he’s done a solid job so far. But those are facts. And yet people want to badmouth Beard. It blows my mind. If your view on him has to do with the DV incident, fine that’s your prerogative. That dude can flat coach though. He’s really, really good.

They’d be absolutely foolish not to go for Beard. He should be the clear cut #1. Beard was absolutely my guy for the UK job and I completely understand why people didn’t want him here and now I’m very happy with Pope. I actually think Beard is a top 5 coach in CBB.

I have no problem with Chris at all. Just didn't see a professional relationship between Pitino and him being so strong.

Oh I agree. Wasn't badmouthing Chris. Just dont want Indiana hiring Bruce Pearl. That would be an instant problem.

Check Beard’s losses each season. He is not the wonder that everyone makes him out to be. One season with single digit losses. Other seasons it’s between 10-14 losses.

exactly. He’s the flavor of the month, nothing more. Add in his propensity for slapping his girl up and he’s not that appealing.

Dude, he coached at TTU in the B12 when they were the best or second best conference in basketball. And while at TTU, in that conference, he has a title, second place, and third place finish. And a national title game appearance and E8. He flipped Smarts mess at Texas in a year. He had Texas SO GOOD that Rodney Terry couldn’t eff it up. That’s probably his greatest accomplishment as a coach. It’s basically like having Bruiser take over and the teams so good even he couldn’t fail.

If you knew the actual DV story, you’d change your tune probably. It’ll NEVER be told that way and Beard was totally at fault for his part. But that isn’t the entire story. And it’ll never get out.

I’m a UK nut fan. I love Bears. I’d hate to see him in Bloomington. Why? Because he’d kill it there. They’d finally be relevant again.

If you are Indiana’s AD and Beard is not your first and last call, it would be malpractice. He might have a sketchy past but you hired Kelvin Sampson. They don’t care about that. What’s worse, he’s a home run hire making them relevant again for the first time this Century.

He’s a great coach. But he threw away any chance of ever being hired by an upper echelon school by beating up his girlfriend.

And rightfully so.

And while it can be debated that IU is upper echelon, they think they are.

Cross him off your list Indiana. šŸ˜‚

The oldest trick in coaching. ā€œSourcesā€ link you to a job that you don’t want. The source is usually a media guy who is friendly with the coach. The coach then squeezes the AD for a big raise in pay. The AD uses the situation to ask the alumni to give more money. Then the AD raises ticket prices. The tax payers and the students paying tuition get hosed.

That isn’t what happened. Not even close.
