One of those deals where he's probably right but you keep that stuff in house. Sometimes it's not what you say in public but how you say it.

Micks midget *** has been a joke since UC. Those UC fans would crack me up thinking he'd win anything for them when they were putting up 52 and barely beating Tulsa in the AAC. I belly laughed when UCLA messed up and brought him in because this was imminent. Sorry but a lot of my friends went to or root for UC and they hate everything about UK for 0 reason outside of jealousy of the basketball program so my hate runs deep right back at them
I was there for that victory in '05 in the Tournament in Indy. It was sort of a revenge game for me for that 24-11 game in '83. To this day that one is still the most ticked off I've ever been at a win.
He may be a midget .. he may be an ******* … but he’s got balls for saying out loud what we all know - today’s athletes can be pampered over paid toddlers . And winning and losing doesn’t quite matter .
There is a great comment in the YT comment section regarding NIL.
We have all these players who are contractors. What do we do with contractors? Pay 10% up front and the balance upon completion. Players have no motivation to play hard when they already got paid their balance before stepping foot on the court.
That's a good way of putting it. It's just, FTMP, human nature. It's as if this new college ball landscape wouldn't be complete unless the pros, err, student athletes attended a Gordon Gekko seminar. I HATE this model with every fiber of my being. Have some pride in your craft. Lay it all out on the court. Go hard or don't go at all.
And contracts can be cancelled if work is sub par.
Probably crossed the line publicly, but I don’t have much of a problem with him calling people out. We all demand accountability. That’s all he’s doing here.

'83 is a little before me but i can completely understand. I was 11 for the '05 game and i remember watching it with my baseball team and my father and I being the only Kentucky fans there. The next season was the first time i got to go to Rupp so i always remember that little period of time pretty vividly
I eventually will get over this but every time I see Michigan or Illinois is playing Oregon or USC, my first reaction is why are they stepping out of conference? Then 8 seconds later I realize that they're not.
The "everyone is a problem, except me" will go over very well with the players and staff.
Maybe they should take that as a sign and leave the Big 10 and get the Pac whatever number it would be now back together. It's so stupid to have UCLA in the same conference as Rutgers and Cal and Stanford in the ACC.

EDIT: I posted the GIF in an attempt at humor before I watched the presser and it may be an unpopular take but Im (God help me) Team Cronin on this one. This stuff he describes isnt happening in a vacuum in Westwood, you're kidding yourself if you think it is. These "delusional" kids, not playing for pride, low energy and effort is a symptom of a generation of soft *** kids who have been coddled, told how great they are by "mentors, cronies and hangers on" trying to profit off of their talent.
What is the incentive for a marginally skilled college player to put it all out on the line for "his" out of state school when he was already paid a large sum to simply show up? What does wearing the Arkansas or Kentucky jersey and tradition do for the school pride of Cal's mercenaries? Not a whole hell of a lot. To think that there is an intrinsic desire to win for the name on the front of the jersey these days is a joke. Highest bidder pays for one year, next year new offer and address and it wash, rinse, repeat for 2,3,4 more years. I'm a purist and I understand that the college games will never go back to. Again, he's not the only one dealing with the issues but I appreciate him for calling out not necessarily the individuals but the system that created this erosion of college athletics.

I was going on 13 in '83. That game sticks out to me a lot because my family all watched that game together. Mom and Sis never watched the games too much but we all did that day. I can vividly recall Dad yelling at the tv something along the lines of "Take this Dean Smith gameplan out of basketball and give us a shot clock!"
Why do this on a post game press conference? Kick a player off the team if you need to or suspend one of the culprits for like 5 or more games , throw a fit in the locker room. Better yet tell them if they play with more passion, he'll get the boosters to NIL bonus money to them ... just dont do it in a press conference to shame them publicly.
Like the guy in the video said, it really comes across as Cronin saying none of this is his fault. Well Cronin, you recruited the players, you hired your staff, maybe you should have a better eye for talent on the floor and sidelines then?
Those are the types of managers that make me go "well **** you guy, putting in the minimum effort until I get another job and not giving you any notice either"
He definitely is correct and has a point but you can’t go about it that way being the head of a sports team.

He just channeled 95% of coaches I’d bet. Dumb as hell to say it out loud but I’d bet every single one of them has thought the exact same thing many times.
Maybe it’s time that changed. Accountability is a helluva motivator.
I see lots of teams and lots of players across college basketball busting their *** full out every night. Coach better. Recruit better. Hire better assistants. Quit crying and playing the blame game like a baby.
I guess but no one like to see a boss chew out their subordinates in public. No one with decency anyway. Keep that stuff out of the media and out of the public. No one respects a boss like that that does nothing but throw his dudes under the bus, even if it’s somewhat true. At SOME point, you have to be the boss….FIX IT. He’s getting 4.1M to do so.
