A highly talented, top-shelf team should be able to control the ball, go on long extended time-consuming drives, keep our offense off the field, and beat us in a close game by avoiding a shootout and keeping their defense rested and ours gassed.

With that being said, that was tOSU's plan and we beat them, and they're top-shelf talent. But thinking about our D against Georgia's or Clemson's offense is kind of scary. Wisconsin and Miami are not so scary.

And yet we're 11-1?

I mean, yeah, it was a little alarming to see their wildcat formation working so well, but we won by 28.

The defense didn't play great today, but it played well enough so that we weren't really challenged. Isn't that good enough?

If we win the national championship game 45-31, are you guys going to come on here and complain about MS?

What if OU faces a team that manages to play some defense and limits OU to 31 points while OU plays ****** defense and allows 38 points?

I'm no genius, but I think there's a reason for 11-1

After seeing Mike once again use a 3-man front against a team determined to run the ball all night, Wisconsin looks more and more like an unbeatable game if we play them. OU will not be able to stop their running game with that defensive scheme and it will keep Baker on the sidelines and the defense will be gassed by the 3rd quarter. Mike really needs to get his head out of his *** and coach!

The thought occurs...Might he be doing the best he can? That what we see is all he has? So far he hasn't shown much more...SCARY!

They made a decision to scheme a wildcat set because they didn't think their backup could sustain their normal scheme. It worked and also, to some extent allowed them to control the clock. Unfortunately, we didn't need much clock time to shred their D. Our linebackers played as bad a game collectively as I've seen all year.

That was something very unexpected. According to Mike, they only saw about 15% of what they practiced for during the week. I guess Mike was planning for the starting QB. He must of forgotten he was planning for a backup. I guess when he saw the different offense during the game, he must have forgotten he could also make adjustments.

MS inability to adjust, to game time situations is absolutely baffling. The LB play was horrible, watching Kelley take on Olineman and not contain gap integrity on almost every play was a joke. Murray kept stunting and Beal looked lost. Just the friggen basic. Wildcat, hands on your knees, shoulders square to the line, eyes wide and keep gap control. Simple!

On most of those running plays where they gashed our D like a hot knife through butter, you'll notice that our D players stand there waiting for the ball to come to them, instead of attacking the ball. We make soooo many tackles falling backwards. On one play, Murry stood still in his LB spot until the OG engaged him in his LB spot 5 yards downfield. The RB just followed the OG and poof, an easy 10+ yard gain. This is all on the coaches. We have guys with tons of talent IMO, but they are either being told the wrong things, or not being coached enough.

I also don't feel like we've seen the best our D can do. With the young guys though, I'm hoping they learn a little more each week, and they will put it all together for an amazing 3 game stretch here to end the year!!

He didn’t forget to make adjustments, he can’t.

Our defence line stands up in place of firing out low and our linebackers do not fill running lanes. The linebackers did not fill the lanes on their run plays and most tackles were made by the secoundary. On one play instead of filling the run lane they waited and for the blocker to block them as the runner ran by. We need more attack linebackers and less waiting around to get blocked.

Relax all & get ready for another Big XII Championship. We've seen what we did @ Columbus. Clay/Ali's 'rope-a-dope strategy' is in play here. (fingers crossed)
I agree with your "rope a dope" call. Except I actually prefer "rope the dope". In the booth, tie Mike to his chair and gag him. Then have an usher strategize our defense. What could it hurt at this point?

Looks like they're going to run 90% of the time...

...better leave one defensive tackle and two defensive end to play the line of scrimmage.

What I don't understand was the tried and true Stoops formula of stopping the run first. Regardless if they practiced that specific set, you would think it is ingrained in the defense to fill run gaps by now.

Discussing a bit with my wife while leaving the game last night, I think our weakness is we recruit linebackers that can cover screens and tight ends but cannot shed blocks to stop the run. Our competition dictates our defense instead of having a dominant defense that dictates our competition.
