It's so hard to argue about 16-consecutive seasons in the post-season, 4 finals appearances, and 3 Cups. Plus all the individual awards won by Sid and Geno.
That being said, my feeling is that Malkin, coming off a season that saw him 15 whopping goals, is a 2nd line center that contributes more like a 3rd line center, and is getting paid like a 1st line center.
I'm kind of hoping he retires. He has a young son, now, and his priorities have probably shifted away from hockey, which is absolutely fair. Plus age and injuries have clearly taken their toll on him. I just don't think he's got anything left to contribute, or for that matter, prove.
I'd like to see them ship Malkin, Letang, and Karlsson out the door, and really load up on draft picks. It'd be great if we can get one more run in the post-season before Sid checks out.
