I remember him missing two consecutive free throws early in the game. And then I remember him sitting.
To be fair, it was primarily that they hit a lot of 3sIowa scored 30 points on 14 possessions when Skelly was in the game (-18), and scored 47 points on 49 possessions when he wasn't (+11).
Given Skelly's deterioration as a contributor this year - (I think) every stat except for three point shooting and steals showed a decline versus last year - it's surprising that it took 30+ games for Benson and Pardon to get significant minutes together.Wow, so no injury just the bench? Good for Benson getting real minutes and hopefully Skelly gets some rest and motivation. I worried he got hurt as well. The tournament already looks like a Skellyton crew operation.
Not really surprising when you figure Benson was being used as Pardon's sub and he would generally have three fouls before he turned around. When he was used as Skelly's sub, he was able to keep the fouls down. With another center coming in next year, it may give CCC the flexibility to get him on the floor more.Given Skelly's deterioration as a contributor this year - (I think) every stat except for three point shooting and steals showed a decline versus last year - it's surprising that it took 30+ games for Benson and Pardon to get significant minutes together.
He has to avoid the ticky tack fouls.I'm a believer in Benson's potential. I know he's only averaged 2 points a game his first two years, but a lot of that has to do with Pardon being the best player on the team. Defensively, he's pretty much where he needs to be. He's fast for a big man and contests shots well. On offense, he has to get a lot stronger and be able to finish 60-70 percent of shots within 5 feet.
He looked pretty good teaming with Pardon down low during the last game. I'd start both of them and Falzon as well. BMac and Lindsey in the backcourt with Gaines the first guy off of the bench. Guess that leaves Brown and Skelly. Talk about zero depth.I'm a believer in Benson's potential.
