Mitch Barnhart still "invigorated" (May not retire)

I think its fair that the majority of this board wants Mitch to retire. He has to give a 6 month notice to do so he can fulfill that ambassador role through 2028. In order to do so, he has to give it by Dec 31st 2025.

As of now it seems like Mitch is 50/50 on retiring or not.

"An old boss of mine told me one time, every time you make a 50-50 decision, you lose 50% of your friends. He’s probably not wrong, but we love Kentucky. I get up invigorated about what we’re doing at work." - MItch

He's about to lose the entire BBN if he doesn't retire in 2026.

"I love watching our kids compete. When that day comes — and don’t know — I’ll sit down with my family, and we’ll talk and determine what’s best for our family and for me, but most importantly, what’s best for Kentucky" - Mitch

What's best for Kentucky is to retire. We need someone new Mitch. Take your money and retire man.

The fact that this dry, low energy, boring, tepid, milktoast, lukewarm, low-testosterone dullard has the balls to claim to be "invigorated" about anything is laughable. This dipsh*t wouldn't be invigorated if you gave him a tub of body lotion and a stack of Linda Lovelace films.

Mitch, we all hate you. Go away please.

I can't tell if he's so delusional that he actually thinks he's done a good job, or if he thinks Kentucky fans are dumb enough that he can con them into thinking he's done a good job. Either way, I've been sick of him since BCG, and never changed my mind, even when Calipari - who he was forced to hire - was making him look good. He eventually even screwed that up.

That's the thing, I don't think he has been a financial disaster actually. A disaster in every other way but financially? No.
I disagree. The athletics department isn't losing money, but it would have made a good chunk more money with better decision making.

The places where he can impact the financials have almost entirely been negative due to bad hires and/or giving ****** contracts to coaches that are performing well at a point in time. I'm not going to give him credit for being able to cash an ESPN check we get for just existing in the conference.

I could be AD and still turn a profit, he should be doing better point blank.

Edit: Just to add, I dont think hes been horrible for the olympic sports obviously. But those don't make money.

You would think all of these horrible contracts would be enough to convince him (or the administration) that he isn't qualified for this job. I don't like to talk negatively about people, but it's clear that Mitch is clueless.
My belief is that he has set the administration up to get rich off these terrible deals so they love him. None of them care if fans and sports suffer because they get rich.

That he is 66 and still can’t make a decision on his own says everything. Who does he need permission from, his grandchildren? What does he plan to ask his family? “Do you want me to retire before I’m senile or go directly from work to the retirement home?” If your wife doesn’t want you home more at this point, well, not shocked to be honest but please go torture her instead of the fan base.

That's the real problem. The people he answers to, could give a rats rectum about sports success as long as the money is there. As for being " invigorated " the prospect of kickbacks and " bonuses" from JMI for the forseeable future would invigorate me as well.

I believe he will might retire and shouldn’t even have a choice in the matter. Mitch is now the most hated AD in Kentucky history. This is his only chance to redeem any of that. I spoke to some Kentucky fans at a buddies job site yesterday who don’t even care as much as us, and they were asking me why Mitch is still employed. Made me realize this is stretching across the fanbase, not just here.

Mitch would have been ran out years ago, and at any other major SEC program he would have been. This president and BOT’s are completely thumbing the nose at UK alumni and fans and it’s time the fans spoke back.

Mitch likely didn’t want to retire yet. I think he wanted to go to 68, but he needs to go home. He should be fired but not with this president in that seat. But the fact that he’s floating this shows he wants to see the response. He went from not retiring to 50/50. Good sign.

People have said for a while it’s time they were all investigated. We went from a good ole boy network that cared about winning to a good ole boy network who couldn’t care less. This is about getting rich. They think the fans will show regardless.

I have contributed to UK for more than 20 years, not alot but it's something. I go to games and spend money in Lexington when I do. I will never spend another dime on UK as long as this SOB is still there. It is a meaningless gesture in the big picture but if enough people start to feel this way and ACT it eventually might. Mitch MUST GO!!!!

If Kentucky continues to suck at basketball, it’ll eventually screw them over when people stop buying UK stuff.

It’s likely there are more kids in the state of Kentucky who root for other programs than they are for UK itself. Could potentially be dealing with an inevitable demographic collapse of the fanbase.

I watched game highlights where they can’t get the box checked. Not paying for anything Kentucky.

Good Lord Mitch. Read the room for crying out loud.

Give someone else a chance to fail.
Come on Kev, Mitch said JMI has been wonderful to us over the years. He even said enough! He wouldn’t be this mad if he did something wrong. Pope is here, I mean this thing is covered it just hasn’t happened yet.

Whatever is going on, let Mitch fix this. Look what the guy has done in the past. Without Mitch we wouldn’t have a single championship in rifle. Those agents and these coaches feel fear when Mitch Barnhart’s name comes up. He’s playing chess.

Surely he knows by now how much BBN despises him.
