Well here is his chance to prove folks wrong .

I don’t feel bad for him . He should have known what the reaction to him getting hired would be like . Hopefully he’s up to the challenge and will prove people wrong .
Shaudy, I have always respected your insight and knowledge. How did we get to this point with this hire?

Appreciate it and I respect your post too. Damn good question. I honestly didn’t see it getting any lower than Scott Drew . I knew Hurley was a long shot. I thought the Uk name and money would make this a fairly easy process.

Man was I wrong .

Look at how this board is acting right now and you should understand why nobody wants this job. These spoiled, petulant children are still convinced that we can have whoever we want. We're going to have to build a great coach. But they want to destroy this one. One of our own, before he even starts.

I get what you’re saying but message Boards are pretty toxic in general especially for a school who has a passionate fan base . The negativity is definitely too far on here at times but hey that’s the internet

All true. But this is embarrassing. And probably destructive.

I wish I could find the Ken Pom thread about Pope at BYU when he got hired. I got blasted by all of the jerkoffs here who are now the loudest ones calling for his head.

Stow it, chump. You can't have it both ways. On one hand you argue that the fans have zero say in decision making, on the other hand the fans somehow cause coaches not to want to come here?

The fault lies ENTIRELY with Mitch.

Stop bashing the fans. I know it's your only trick, pony.

My gut says (reading tea leaves) Mitch is political person who has proven to be incompetent.

Mitch in coaching search was rejected by main targets and his “political decision” was to hire an alumni, liked and championship player who “optically” would be a win with the fans.

It was a political type move and decision by Mitch.

Mitch tried to mitigate this decision risk this year by buying talented roster. It backfired.

Couple this with Pope being is over his skies and the wrong hire. It backfired.

Pope is rightfully getting roasted and deserves it.

But Mitch set him up and owns this shitshow.

Nothing changes till Mitch is gone.

Gillespie, last five of Cal and now Pope.

Mitch is the core issue.

This gonna get ugly, and not fair to Mark. I love Mark Pope. But guy isn’t ready and will get eaten alive by his own family.
This is looking like a brilliantly spot on call. “Eaten alive by his own family” is a perfect way of describing what this board looks like tonight.

It’s too bad Mitch couldn’t see it coming as well as fans like yourself did.

He started a year & a half ago & has no recruits signed for next year.
He's destroying himself because he's not a good enough coach to do this job

I was surprised at first but willing to give him a chance. He had better turn things around really fast. The original statement here was so true. He basically has been exposed as being in over his head.

Often the group reaction is wrong. I am afraid this time is not one of those.

You HAVE to protect home court. And we have already lost 2 games at home to teams we should have beat. I know a big part of the blame is on the players making dumb decisions but Pope gets a huge part as well. Why , when you need a 3, do you not put in ALL of your best shooters. That includes Jasper, Noah and Jelavic. I know they hadn't played all game but they are shooters.

I was actually pretty excited with Marks hiring. From all accounts he was a damn good basketball coach who many of his peers suggested he was extremely difficult to prepare for. And was doing this at BYU without much talent to speak of. Being at UK and being able to recruit at a much higher level, I envisioned a much different product than what we are seeing now. Year 1 was more than fine and still felt great about him and what he was able to pull off with such little time to assemble his team.

year 2 has not been a blip. It’s been a total effing disaster for which I can’t see any recovery from. The weight of the job has crushed his abilities to make effective coaching decisions. He’s coaching now like it’s his first or 2nd year ever in the business. We aren’t getting better, we are actually getting worse. No recruits are coming and we will once again be left trying to assemble a team through the portal but after this disaster of a season who will want to come?

Mark pope is a shell of his former self and it took just a season and a half to make that happen. He cannot do this and I hope he realizes what his next assignment has to be? There is no way around it.
