Going with 10-14 friends for a long weekend in the Summer. Went about 5 years ago, but that was my first time and really can't say I know anything about the area (it was a short stay).

Normally we'll go to a lake or cabin somewhere but a lot of the good ones by me were taken. Montreal is only 3-4 hours away and the exchange rate is real nice: about 1 Canadian dollar to 0.75 cents US. That could save everyone a few hundred dollars on the trip. Plus, Airbnb has a lot of well priced places, anywhere from $500-800/night for 5 Bedrooms. For a big city, that's not bad.

But, I need some information. All I remember is that Catherine St/Crescent St is where you want to be (if you're in your 20's and 30's).. but is that still the same? Is there a better area, or someplace on the upswing? Any tips on the area? Must-do things before going to Canada (One of which is buying liquor at the border, I remember) Also, any places to see, drink, eat, and get lap dances from would be greatly appreciated?

My only trip to Montreal was in 2004, so keep that in mind.

If you like sightseeing old architecture, the Notre Dame Chapel is pretty amazing.

Rue St. Paul has tons of bars, restaurants and patisseries.

The Underground will be impossible to miss, especially if you take the metro.

Day trips anywhere might be tough. Looks like it's gonna be two nights. I'm gonna try to get there by mid-afternoon on Friday, leave mid-day on Sunday.

@WayneDougan What's in Quebec City?

@GrandePdre Wow, St. Paul looks awesome! Never even heard of it! Reminds me of some places in Europe.. tight cobble stone like streets with old bars and new places littered throughout. That's exactly what I'd be looking to do. As much as I like Catherine/Crescent.. it's a little on the club/young side for us, (still love going there though..). St. Paul would actually be closer to our place than Cath/Cres.

Def looking to do anything within a 30min subway/metro ride.

If you only have a few days then stay in Montreal. But QC is much more "French" - very European feel compared to Montreal imo.

I just went and got lost...avoid St. Catherines. St Laurent has great bars. The tittie clubs on the outside of town are sketchy, but less rules - probably should avoid. Just go and drink...a ton.

IIRC, St. Catherines had the strip clubs, and was kind of dumpy (but not terrible, not different from many areas in NYC).. but the intersection at Crescent had a ton of hopping bars. I remember some crazy 3-story authentic Irish bar with different areas and rooms to explore and hangout. Pretty sure I saw a bunch of old men singing Irish folk songs in the parlor.

A few girls going with us, so I may have to sneak off to a strip club.

I'll have to check out St. Laurent also.

Googled QBC, looks awesome, but a bit too far for the weekend trip.
