Two alleged “5 Stars” bolted ...Brey Walker and Clayton Smith. Never to the life of me could figure out why either one could not crack the starting line up. Quite the purge and flee thing going on these days...

the Smith one leaves me scratching my head as he is a great prototypical DE size and shows signs of promise IMO

He quit the team before the Tech game and was quickly removed from the team's roster on the official website. So he's going portal wasn't a surprise.

I figured Walker would have been a force as a guard. I believe he tested the portal last year. I trust Bedenbaugh knows what he's doing. Hope Walker finds a home and had success.

Oklahoma State's Spencer Sanders is in the portal. That's wild.
It’s surprising how many established starters go into the transfer portal. I know it’s happened in prior years but it seems noticeably more now.

Money, I would think, drives a guy like Sanders to relocate. Or similar to an aging NBA vet trying to jump to an established team trying to win something big before the ride ends.

I've never been impressed with Sanders. He is mobile and eventually learned to use that too his advantage but his accuracy in big moments was never there.

Oklahoma State is going to be bad next season. Like possibly at the very bottom of the conference bad. Their QB situation is not good and not much better at the skill positions. Defensively their leading tackler is in the portal and they lose a number of key contributors. TCU and Kansas State are going to likely lose the guys that made their seasons. Oklahoma will need to strike next season with an opportunity to reestablish conference control.

Sorry for the rant. I'm bored at work.

I get frustrated easily watching the little things that went wrong. But I truly believe there is reason to be optimistic. There were some miscues that were very inexcusable but in hindsight it must be considered that this was Venables first season as a head coach and we know what culture Lincoln left behind. Now that's not a pardon for poor game management or seemingly bad preparation but these things can be easily corrected by a staff that will likely settle in in year 2. I believe trust in the players and staff will correct a lot of the issues we dealt with. And an upgrade in interior defensive line talent will be crucial for the defense to excel in what Brent wants to do. I expect Stutsman and Downs to explode in 2023, along with a few other guys making big strides.

You are a true Sooner. Keep it up and you will be rewarded one day. Take it from an old guy that’s been a Sooner fanatic since the 50’s.

It'll be hard to top 2000. I was 16 playing high school football, only really knew OU as average or below average team, got a taste of some good wins in '99 and some hard fought losses, and then the magic that unfolded was like Christmas for a kid.
