Watching Loyola battle Wisconsin tonight, if the new AD is looking for a new head ball coach I'd call Porter Moser first. His kids play hard, have a clue on offense, and rebound. He does it without 4* recruits and doesn't use some goofy PO. Just solid basketball.

Why is Moser still at LUC?

What has he turned down and why?

Anyone has any insight?

I wonder what kind of relationship Moser has/had with Phillips. They lived a few blocks from each other, sent their kids to the same Catholic schools, etc., so it would seem like a natural fit if Collins were to depart. Whether a new AD would have a better or worse relationship with Moser, who knows? From all I've observed, Moser is a great guy, a great coach, and a potentially great fit for Chicago's Big Ten Team.

Then there is the fact that Loyola plays a much weaker schedule then NU.

Agreed!. And the one time they played a bunch of P5 schools they totally flamed out in NCAA Tournament! They only made it to the Final Four, didn't even win it!

What have they done since then or previously? And please don't reference 1963. 28 years ago and it was a different type of game.

He followed that year up with a 20 win season and an NIT appearance. Taking Loyola to the Final Four is more impressive than 99% of the achievements of any coach we would interview. We all know we are not getting an elite coach to take this job. But having a realistic chance at a coach who knows the Chicago market AND has gotten to the Final Four? If we have another bad season it would be crazy for the new AD not to think about Moser.

I'm fine with Collins, but if we DID move in a different direction, then yeah, Moser would seem like a pretty good choice - solidly a Chicago guy, probably in his coaching prime age-wise, has good familiarity (and likely, some good relationships) with local HS coaches, a track record of some success with fewer resources than we have . . . again, I'm still on board with CCC, but Moser does check a number of boxes.

Moser's Loyola team just finished off two epic beatdowns of his former employer, Illinois State. He must have really enjoyed that after getting screwed by that school which fired him after just four seasons. Next coach there took his talent and won big for a couple years, then tanked, and they keep getting worse and worse under their current guy, soon-to-be-fired Dan Muller.

The Loyola radio broadcasts were great. Red Rush (?) shilling Gonella Bread while Corky "Ding Dong" Bell. "Ajax" Tillman. "Radar Arm" Miller were filling it up

My dad used to say “swella fella, just like Gonella.”

In the late 90s, there was a Chicago high school package broadcast on, say, WCIU, that got a Gonella sponsorship. My dad loved it.

I remember Red Rush doing the Chicago Cougars' games in the old WHA. Likely the first and only time you'll see the Cougars mentioned on these boards . . . or anywhere else, for that matter. Good times.

That's right. We Whalers loyalists will brook no Cougars talk around these parts.

Muller is a train wreck.
