When Pope loses a random game we are all going to come on here and say how! But none of these players have played together. It's going to be ok. His system is going to be fun to watch, we're not going to go undefeated. We're also going to be headed in the right direction.

I know some are going to expect to have Rupp reincarnated by their post. But give him time to get it together. Don't mind me I'm just ONE UK fan of of the hundreds of thousands of us.

He has a 5 year contract and i’m good with that barring a Kenny Payne level performance the first 2 seasons. And I really can’t see that happening considering how he did at BYU and the immediate upgrade in talent over what he had at BYU.

If we make the tourney this season I consider that a win. We had zero players committed in april

Well I’m sitting here at the fake beach of Great wolf Water Park Resort in Mason, Ohio and I should have ignored the post but didn’t. Think I’ll check back out and go hit the twister water slide.

Hey I was there for kids spring break and spent 3 days during Cal saga trying to figure out what the hell was happening. I got up every morning at 5 am and walked the parking lot for two hours listening to podcasts. Family was sleeping anyway and with subtle peep of me, everyone is up.

That twister slide or as my kids call it- "toilet bowl" is legit.

Nah, standards are not the same. It’s about being anti Cal now, not actually winning games. That’s why half the posts on this board are Arkansas related. We all know the assignment, the real assignment.

Mason is so nice. I’m originally from West, Tennessee Memphis area. I haven’t been assaulted or had attempted robbery happen one time since I moved up to Lexington. And this place is wild but man if it doesn’t wear you down. I was like hey, let’s go up for 3 nights and get the passes that let’m do everything! That’s what I said. For kids I guess it doesn’t get better.

Headed up to the kids dance party in the lobby. Maybe they won’t do baby shark or what the fox say song this time. Ready to move on.

I thought for sure this would be about someone infamous on the board or a super troll like the porn spreading dude.
Classic.

There was one time back about 2011 where there was some guy who trolled the board and then the post had some dude with these massive fat legs over his shoulders and saying "jealous?". HAHA I randomly think about that post every now and then and the guy who tried to sell his house on here like 15 years ago.

Yeah it is exhausting. Highly recommend the spicy margarita at the pool bar.

The kids show with those creepy animals that dance around is something else.

So, basically. Even if we lose, we win because his system is fun? Lol
The standard has changed. Y’all can laugh all you want but being anti Cal is what it’s all about. We don’t want 5 star players because that’s what Cal wanted. We want players who play for the name on the front, not the name on the back (whatever that means) because Cal players did. Going 23-12 is acceptable now as long as the coach says I know the assignment insted of go.

You seem big big mad that Kentucky isn't being held hostage by a snake oil salesman anymore. Weird. Most everyone here is happy to have true Kentucky basketball back, without a ton of expectations for the first year.

Nowhere did I ever say we don't want 5 star players. I just said I want less of them. 2-3 and fill the roster out with veterans. Agree with the rest.

You didn’t say it, this board did. No 18 year olds or studs who aspire to play in the NBA according to the general consensus of this board. They were furious that 3 star Trent Noah wasn’t recruited and acted like it was a crime against humanity when we had 2 5 star wings. Trent Noah was the better option according to this board. I can bump the thread.

You're over-generalizing and over-exaggerating things. People don't want to rely on EXCLUSIVELY freshman because it basically doesn't work for program success. Nobody doesn't want players with NBA aspirations.

Basically, people want a coach whose #1 agenda is college basketball success. That wasn't Cal's top priority and it should have been.

Maybe make a "most ignored postER" thread. OP can definitely be in the running. OP are you 10 ? if not, sad. What does "most ignored post" have to do with Pope's coaching ???

The original post was pretty much stupid to begin with but there's been a few equally as bad replies. There have been a couple "sounds good on paper" comments about how losses are understandable starting out but the actual truth is the overwhelming majority who say such will be the first one leading the charge when an upset or two comes along.

Guess what ? So many people want to talk about what is/was trending. Upsets are a trend that's on an upward trajectory. More and more no name schools - as people refer to - are beating the big time teams more frequently. If a team has an off night or isn't fully prepared/engaged they can be beaten any given game.

I also feel like Oweh will show out for us, his defense is really solid and I think he's a better offensive threat than he's been given credit for. Surrounded by shooters, size and other defensive minded players, we should be fine this year
Don't forget Butler defensively. It's going to be nice not seeing our backcourt be taken off the dribble with regularity.

Why are you so mad? 80% of this board wanted Cal gone, and he left voluntarily. Got a multiyear, 8 figure contract. Get over it already. People here are glad he's gone. I'd be surprised if Pope can't win a title in the next 15 years, in which case he'll be tied with Cal, who is also tied with Tubby btw.

I don't think I have sky high expectations at all. I am expecting the team to be pretty good but I know we're gonna lose some games.

Here is why I'm elated right now- there are a couple reasons

1. Pope loves UK almost as much as this fanbase. I had forgotten how great it can be to have a coach who genuinely loves the university and the tradition as much as the fans. I love that Pope is putting the name on the front of the jersey first. I think Cal appreciated Kentucky and tolerated the "Bennies" but Pope is embracing it all. I love that!

2. I thought when Cal left he would take the entire team with him (and he did) and I also expected the program to suffer and need at least a year or maybe 2 before I could legitimately expect them to be any good. I think the job Mark Pope has done in getting a good team in place is exceptional. I'm beyond pleasantly surprised by all this.

3. I'm thrilled with what I see of Mark Pope's tenacity and just plain ol' hard work on the recruiting trail and in building the program and team. He may not have the resume of some other coaches, but he has sold me. His passion for UK makes such a huge difference. I can see that he's just that kind of guy, but the way he loves this program and fanbase tells me he really is the right guy for the job. I'm all in.
