I just watched Birdman and boy, was that overrated. Anyways, its among a long list of pretentious Academy Awards garbage. Its not the most 'up its own butt' movie but still bad and has me wondering about other pretentious films.

In my opinion, The Tree of Life by Terrence Malick is the worst POS movie ever made and looked as if an art student just busted a nut over it.

Trying to get me to watch a movie by telling me it won an Academy Award is like trying to get me to go to a restaurant by telling me it has a good burger.

Wall Street - 2 hours worth of people shouting profanities at each other mixed in with some crappy plot about screwing people out of money to get to the top.

It was a great movie. Maybe it was too intellectual for you.

The Academy Awards are about as pretentious as the Grammys. Look at the last few decades of Best Picture winners and nominees. It's some pretty ordinary high quality mall movies--hardly anything to alienate the Furious 7 crowd. Hell, Gladiator and Forrest Gump won Best Picture.

Just watched Birdman... and agree on it being overrated.

As for Malick's movies: Tree of Life is okay... especially compared to his To The Wonder (w/ Ben Affleck) effort. TOL at least had its moments... TTW is 10X worse. I don't know if TTW was actually nominated for anything, though?

The Age of Innocence

A 3 hour snooze fest of a pretentious movie about pretentious people.

Just a steaming heap of awful.

This Is The End. Not pretentious in the normal sense just an overwhelming sense of pretentiousness and douchebaggery from Rogen and Franco to think anyone would want to watch this pile of crap.

Every funny part was in the trailer. If I had seen Rogen or Franco walking down nicholasville road after I saw the movie I would have ran them over, backed up, ran over them again and repeat.

This. If I can understand something, I just assume its pretentious. Or anything artsy fartsy, like moonsrise kingdom.

I don't know if Wes Anderson's style has always been extremely pretentious or if it has become worse over the years. It might be due to the fact he never steps outside of his theatre / stage frame schtick.

I loved Bottle Rocket / Rushmore / The Royal Tenenbaums / and yes, I didn't even mind A Life Aquatic. Maybe I soured on him from The Darjeeling Limited on....not saying those movies are terrible but I'd just like to see some innovation from him.

Good call. Effing t-e-r-r-i-b-l-e. And strange too. WTF.
That scene where the 12 year olds fondled each other was disgusting and I can't believe a parent signed their kid up for it.

Not it only is this movie ridiculous but I dislike pretty much all Wes Anderson films with Bottle Rocket being the exception.

^Yep. That scene had me stand up to leave the theater before my wife made me sit back down. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Crash. SIL thought it was the greatest movie of all time and for a period of time watched it every time I was at their house. The plot was such a stretch and everything was so one dimensional. To sum up that movie,

"omg wow racism is like, sooooo bad."
"I know, right?"
"But look at all the big actors in it. Like, so much respect for them now"
"Yeah. I literally can't even!"
