It took a few days, but I flushed game 1 out. Those guys are just on a different level than everyone else including Clemson.

We had so many new faces at critical positions, new coaches, and went up against the all time football machine.

Time for all to refocus and get back to celebrating what it is that we wait so long for every year.

Home opener, expanded stadium, in a top conference.....load up the train!

I think we've been lulled to sleep. I'm not a "let's fire Bobby 2.0" guy yet, but he's underperformed in a big way since returning. Our expectations should be no different in football than basketball IMO. If he goes 7-5 this season he should be put on notice that his seat is slightly under HOT. If he doesn't perform at a high level this season or next it may be time for a change.

I am in the same boat. We should have a decent picture of what we need to work on. now to see how we respond. Focus on what we control and do it to the best of our ability. This is a young team that will only gain by experience. Getting slobber knocked by Alabama is no great sin, though the optics were not good.
Not many teams get immortalized in song like Alabama in "Deacon Blues". And that was before Saban.

Football is such a different animal than basketball. It requires so many pieces that have to fit together. On top of that it is a rigged system that will always benefit the top programs. Louisville would have to recruit at an insane level to get to a point where they could compete annually. That is a tough task for a school in a state that produces very little D-1 talent.

Where Louisville needs to be is every 3-4 years have a team that is legit contender for the ACC title. Once they get to that point maybe they could reduce that down to every 2-3 years and so forth. It takes times especially when you have two monsters (recruiting wise) in your division.

I feel the same way. Maybe we're all spoiled as UofL fans, but that doesn't ease the desire for a national title. Howard Schnellenberger said the only variable is time when talking about national championship in football, but time is running out for me. I'm getting older with each passing season and I just don't have that many seasons left. I want to see that national title before I die. Hopefully Bobby Petrino can get it done.

You're either under selling the basketball program or you're over selling the football program.

I don't think so. The football program has been on par with basketball the last 15 years or so save for the 2013 championship. Current state of basketball is obviously not good. I hold a particular disdain for our dyed-in-the-wool 1980s holdover basketball-first fans. Times have changed.

That’s not so. Minus what has happened the past couple of years, the basketball team was still recognized as a top 20 program. We haven’t reached that with Football yet.

There's an argument to be made both ways, but since 04' the football program has had as many (maybe more)top ten finishes as basketball I'd say although I'm too lazy to research. Additionally, the basketball program made the FF three times during that span and the football program won two BCS bowls. It's closer than you think by most objective measures. Feel free to prove me wrong.

No - the UofL football program has not had as many or more T10 finishes than the UofL basketball program since 2004.

UofL basketball has finished in the AP T10 five times since 2004, and UofL football has finished in the AP T10 two times since 2004. UofL basketball adds a title.

This is not to say the UofL football program has not been successful, it has been.

But UofL is an elite basketball program - and UofL football is good, probably underrated nationally, but nowhere near elite.

Proven. If you’re too lazy to do the research, I would recommend not posting like you know everything. Pretty simple.

Screw you. How's that? Way to take an innocuous post and make it personal. My lack of research stems from my disinterest in basketball.

My only point really is fans should be careful with expectations. Got a ways to go before holding the program to a T10 standard.

The program has had a real nice run with multiple coaches the last couple decades but fans may not want to raise the bar to a level that is really difficult to reach.

Just an opinion.
