Murphy taking security precautions after last week's incident

This article makes it sound like MHS is an unsafe place to watch a game. The shooting had nothing to do with Murphy High School it was off campus at a nearby store ,the shooter never came on campus, unfortunately they are sick people everywhere , increased security everywhere would be a god idea not just Murphy High School.

I agree. Maybe a little PR for the school board but it was just a tragic event that hardly ever happens in our county and it just happened to be close to the school but never spilled over to Murphy HS. The shooter was found at the apartments in Tomotla so actually he left the scene and went away from the vicinity of the school. One other note if security was on the minds of our school officials, nothing was mentioned about the security at Andrews which also has a home game this Friday and is part of CCS. I believe the school board read where many people were worried for there lives last Friday and the school system is trying to quiet those fears by upping security
I cant agree with that. Murders are more frequent than they ever been here. Theres been 4 in the last two months (another one just 2 days ago) and for here thats beyond a lot. Compare the murder rate from the last couple of years to any other period in county history and its not even close. Now compared to most counties in the state its still a pretty safe area but its nothing like it was.

With that said Murphy High and Murphy football games are nothing to be concerned about, very safe.

I agree about the last couple of years but i’m looking back over 10 to 20 years. I’m hoping the last couple of years was not the norm or what’s to come. I’ve looked for the actual amount of murders each year for the last 10 years and can’t find anything. The only thing I found was a total of 4 murders for Murphy from 2002 to 2016
Thats city limits, most of the murders that have taken place in the county over the years were at residencies outside city limits. Only 1 of the 4 recent murders was in Murphy city limits.
