Wow. I'll be surprised if they take a rocketship type jump to the top.

I don't think that was a very smart hire. Muschamp failed miserably at Florida, arguably worse than zook. South Carolina is a job that has a lot more obstacles. Not only are they at the under belly of the SEC east but Clemson owns them. And I don't see dabo leaving anytime soon until bama is in need of a coach.

Time will tell. Perhaps Muschamp has learned from his previous mistakes, and maybe he'll somehow manage to put a good staff together. Overall, however I am inclined to agree with you. I may have to eat my words down the road, but this hire by USC doesn't exactly have me quivering in my shoes.

Well, this shows you how much I know [laughing]. Just a week ago I posted how ADs would overlook his sideline tirades, but some university presidents may not in that they would want to put out a more wholesome look to their university, and not a stark raving lunatic yelling and screaming on the sidelines. Oh well.

Time will tell if he learned his lesson and will make strong offensive hires this time around.

However, this could be bad news for UK as it almost certain now Smart will hire Ansley at UGA. If Muschamp had not gotten the SCAR job he was going to UGA as Smart's DC and would've brought his own DB coach. Ansley is probably the one asst other than Morrow UK could least afford to lose.

Isn't that the trend there?

Actually I liked the Visor no matter how many headsets he broke, but in Mushcamp you get the antics but without the success to go with it. :)

They mucked this hire up. They were the first team to be able to start looking for coach and had a lot of time.
They should have done a better job, this guy pretty much built that offense you saw yesterday with Fla. but built the defense. Thank goodness for UK, Rich Rod or Herman, or Fuentes anybody would be better.
IMO

This is a blah hire to me. He may surprise me....lower expectations, but a lot less talent as well. If he gets them to bowl games most years that would be good for a program like SC. They are not gonna have many more Spurrier 11-2 type seasons IMO.

When you can hire the leader of the 90th ranked defense, you have to pull the trigger.

Auburn defense fell from 64th to 90 when he arrived. Florida went from 6-5 to 10-3 after he left. Just the best news all day.

Hey, maybe he'll hire Dawson and Schlarman away from us.

I would be really upset if I was a USC Jr fan! Guess they wanted to continue the streak of taking Florida's leftovers.

I think it is safe to say that a lot more fans of USCe's rivals are happy with Muschamp's hiring than are USC fans themselves. He may have more success than most of us envision, but I question how much he "learned" during 1 year as an assistant on the sidelines at Auburn. Time will tell.

I think some celebrating USC's hiring of Muschamp a little early. I don't think he was a great DC but he is a good one. AU's defensive stats this year had as more to do with AU's offense being a turnover machine. His biggest issue at UF was the same as mnay here say Stoops is, he hired HUNH OCs mul;ltipe times and wouldn't let him run it. If he stays out of the offense he could be a good coach.

We made our hire official today, we may have the same issue, don't know who the coordinators are going to be, or any of the other staff for sure, just some names being floated around.

Just another example of how the good ole boy network works in the world of football. Countless coaches in college and pros who do bad jobs and always seem to find their way back to head jobs somewhere else.

This guy will be a big failure at SC and their fan base will have to pay the price for a terrible decision made by the folks in their athletics department. Much like what UK football fans have had to deal with for over 60 years and counting.

Agree with this, I don't know what recruit could watch his sideline tirade against two of his better Florida players (Burton brothers?) where I thought he was going to bite the players head off, LITERALLY, would want to play for him.

After watching that I would never let a son of mine play for the Ashat, surprised that the player didn't punch him out.

PS: This is what I found when I tried to look his tirade up:
"Will Muschamp Scre..." The YouTube account associated with this video has been terminated due to multiple third-party notifications of copyright infringement.

That's funny about the YouTube video. And how about his 'going off' in the Iron Bowl last week? Thought he was going to kill the refs. The guy may be a good defensive coach...but he's got issues. Notice that being an ex-UGA player and alum, that he didn't get a peep when Richt was fired?

LOL, that look is from his tirade against Burton (not the one that beat UK one year, Tre??, the other one), if looks could kill there would have been bodies three deep behind Burton. And that wasn't his meanest look by any means.

Three SEC coaching jobs open and not one came calling on Petrino. Is the bloom off the rose?

Petrino's a great coach, but he makes a ton at Louisville plus Jurich locked him in with a huge buyout. Anybody that wanted Petrino would have to be willing to put at least $30 million (not to speak of the crazy money Grantham makes) on the table up front.

Honestly, we have possibly been the beneficiary of some dud hires in our division.
the whole thread is about Muschamp to USC
Smart to UGa - who knows but defensive HC hires don't scare me as much, and he is a 1st time HC
Mizz had to promote their DC

If Mullen had finally taken another job - I would have done backflips!!

Might be giving Ansley a little more credit than he deserves. Stoops said before the season started that he was going to work with the DB's, so a lot of the improvement just might be because of his involvement.

Probably so but Ansley is also a pretty good recruiter.

-his LSU Ds dominated
-his Auburn Ds (first time around) dominated
-his Texas Ds though not as dominant nationally still dominated the B12...
-his florida Ds dominated...

-he was able to help recruit some of the best classes as coordinator...and as HC hauled in top 10 classes every year...

-most of his experience as a coach is in the south and sec...

-top coordinator, HC experience, ace recruiter...

who wouldn't take that?

if he makes the right offensive hire...brings in a Lincoln Rielly type...look out...

I'm not saying he's Nick Saban...but he can build a consistently competitive program at SC...after a couple rebuilding years...wouldn't surprise me to see them winning 8-9 games regularly...

east is really still up for grabs...Florida is back, but they can be challenged and second place is anybody's...

Who knows. He's part of the Belichick/Saban coaching tree. Both of those guys had some bumps in the road with their first head coaching jobs ... and wound up okay.

On the other hand, I really think Muschamp may be insane.

Looks like Muschamp hired Kurt Roper to be offensive coordinator at USC. Roper had good success at Duke before the crash at Florida.

He is a good coord. but the UF offense is still struggling. He acts like an idiot on the sideline.

Alright! He's getting the band back together.:cool2::cool2:
Muschamp should hire Pease again. We could set up an Octagon at the fifty yard line during half time of the USC game so that Lorenzen and Pease could settle their dispute once and for all in a no rules cage fight.

Might be telling that Best coach in division is Butch Jones who pretty much lost 3 games by himself this year with mismanagement.

He's playing at a really high level right now!
Taywan was actually named to the Biletnikoff list - top 10 receiver in the country!
He won't win, but what an accomplishment
