i was going to make my 4000th post in the game ball thread but I changed my mind and decided to use it to post some thoughts on various things I’ve seen recently either on this message board or on other message boards and other things. This is probably going to be a really lengthy post so I apologize in advance. lol

1) Throughout my time as a member/poster on this board I’ve seen numerous occasions where we have lots of random posters that seem to only show up when we’re struggling and post nothing but negative things but then as soon as things start going good again they disappear. I’ve always found that to be extremely annoying and I’m sure that I’m not the only one that feels that way.

2) I’ve seen several opposing fans on other message boards and Facebook that seem to be so sure that they know for a fact that Zion won’t play again this season and because of that they’re always starting with their conspiracy theories about it in regards to the NCAAT.

3) With Zion being out we’re obviously struggling and I think it’s more than just that Zion is one of our best players, I think that it also has to with the fact that it’s throwing everything out of whack because it’s changed the roles of the players. We’ve got players that were backup players that are now starters while Zion is out. We’ve also got players that are playing more minutes than they were due to Zion being out.

4) I find it hilarious that opposing fans still think that RJ is a ball hog even though he’s second on the team in assists and just 4 games ago he had 10 assists against N.C. State.

5) This is just my opinion, some might agree and some might disagree and that’s ok because that’s what message boards are for. AOC was hot as fire from 3 in the Syracuse game and he was 2-2 in the game against VT but he only 2 shots and I don’t understand why he didn’t take more shots in the game. We might’ve won if he had taken more shots but we also might’ve still lost if he had taken more shots, we’ll never know but I just thought it was a bit strange that he only took 2 shots.

6) Last thought, we just need to regroup & win out and hopefully Virginia loses at least one more game. If that happens then we can still win the regular season championship and get that 1 seed. If not then we get the 2 seed and likely play UNC in the semifinals then play Virginia in the finals. Winning out in the regular season and winning the ACCT or at least making it deep in the ACCT is important to getting a 1 seed in the NCAAT so that we get the East and can play in Washington D.C.

Congrats on your 4000th, Diehard! And a good post also.

I'll just add a little to your number (3):
Zion gave us post scoring, rebounding (especially offensive) post defense, allowed our players to gamble on defense knowing he was around to contain mistakes, etc. So, that's a tall order to replace (well, you can't). But you can tune the offense and defense some to the players that are on the court, but that takes time. The guys have to get used to playing without Zion, and also to different combinations of players (with different strengths and weaknesses) into the lineup. I believe playing without Zion will help the team down the road (when he gets in foul trouble, getting a breather, etc.), but to be the team to beat we need Zion. This little break might also help Zion a little too (considering how hard he plays). I still like our chances once we have our team at full strength.

Congrats on 4000. I'm hot on your tail!

Re your post:

#4: RJ is an exceptional player. I've watched a half dozen games this year, and never once did I get the impression he was a selfish player. He's a leader and a scorer. Guys like that demand the ball. Anyone calling him a ball hog is likely lacking in basketball acumen.

#5: I was wondering abut this when I watched the game vs VT last night. The kid seems to know how to play within himself, so it didn't look like he was passing up shots, it looked like the offense just wasn't finding him. He's got a great stroke.
