A 30%-20%-20%-30% split. Sub-divide 1a and and 4a for the playoffs. 32 team brackets. No Wells Fargo Cup or any other other adjustment measures, just ADM's. Use the RPI rating, conference champions get an automatic berth, 2nd place teams get an automatic berth, any remaining wild cards filled in accordingly. No multiple conference champs from split conferences. Determine who qualifies first, then split into 1aa and 1a, then divide east and west. Its not that difficult.

using 2019 adm's, the class splits would be:

1a (112 teams) Between
Winston Salem Prep 152
West Davidson 772

2a (75 teams) Between
West Craven 774
North Forsyth 1004

3a (75 teams) Between
Monroe 1006
Northern Guilford 1424

4a (112 teams) Between
Southeast Guilford 1427
Myers Park 3688

Now you know that makes too much sense.

I will say though that is such a crazy divide in 4A, and you have to factor in other sports. How about do 30/25/25/20 and only subdivide 1A?

Better yet, schools just need to vote to change the bylaws.

Looks good but I think if your in a split confrence and you win your class in conference you should be seeded higher than 2nd place finishers but lower than confrence champs.
Split confrences are a bad deal for everyone. Wish we didn't have them

Thats a fair proposal. Although, I think this split would eliminate a lot of split conferences.

Exactly what I said the other day. Easy fix. Common sense. What do you guys think about subdividing 1A and 4A for all sports and not just football?

That's just going help the charters. Most are small and would dominate even more than now if the Big schools were in 1aa in all sports. Ofcouse if you believe numbers don't matter.......

I agree it should be just ADM and made simple and splitting the playoffs and all but not sure if would or not make much a dent in split conferences. Example it would make the Mtn foothill 7 have 4- 1A and 3- 2A which leaves you 11-1A between them and WHC who all play football so to many for one conference and not enough for two, so while getting rid of one split conference you maybe making another unless you can find another 1A I am not thinking of then you could have two 6 team 1A conferences but you'd still have the 3-2A schools who I don't see a home for because basically everyone around them will be the other three classifications again unless I'm missing some.

No, put charters/academies in one class or two by themselves. Again, nothing wrong with that they will still be a part of the NCHSAA. They have an unfair advantage especially over 1A schools. I coached a team at a charter school for three years and we had kids from 6 different highs schools with a total combined enrollment of 5,600 students. We did not recruit. Imagine if we did. Just saying that’s an easy fix as well. If you allow the ones that play football to play come playoff time then put them in at least 2A if not 3A

I think each school should have a boundary and if a certain percentage of students enrolled live outside that boundary then move them up. Because unfortunately you have to consider open enrollment counties and schools that get a high number of transfers.

And boundaries should be defined within one county, so not multiple counties like a Pine Lake Prep or Lincoln Charter draw from.
