COLUMBUS, Ohio — Pete Nance's historic boys basketball career at Revere concluded with the program's first district championship and regional appearance.

He added All-Ohio Player of the Year in Division II to his accolades on Tuesday, when the OHSAA announced the all-state teams for Divisions I and II. The teams were compiled and selected by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association.

Nance, a 6-foot-10 senior, is headed to Northwestern next season.

When NU began scouting him he was listed as a 6'8" PF. With the added 2 inches and his body looking massively developed from last summer, anybody thinks he ends up as a center?

That's what his big brother is playing for the Cavs.

I'm thinking of a John Shurna v2.0 with a better looking jump shot. Which would be just fine given that Shurna is the all time leading scorer at NU.

I think Shurna is a good comp but I don't think we've had a player like Nance before. He's already 6-10 and some reports have him growing to 7-0. He handles the ball well, probably will develop a good inside game, and shoots well from distance.

I don't think NU has ever had someone like Nance playing at the same time as a PG like Lathon and a wing like Kopp. With a Center like Pardon. And another wing like Law. Makes me want to smile!!!

Which is why I’m hoping NU is going hard after a proven shot-creating grad transfer. Ryan Taylor is a start.

Agreed, but I also think we are going to have a good team next year. I'm probably in the minority on this, but I feel next year's team will be better than this one. It's pretty obvious that we will rely on defense to win a lot of games, but as long as we are healthy, I really like how we'll match up on defense. As good as Lindsey and McIntosh could be on offense (and more often than not, carried our offense), neither of them were above average defenders. I like Gaines getting more time and look forward to getting Turner on the floor.

We'll see, I could be off, but I have a good feeling about next year. This past team will forever be THE NU team that got us to the tourney, but after this past weird season, I think the team will come back next year focused and thrive off of defense to win games.

I hope you're correct about the defense. It would be hard to have a worse defense than the first half of this season - especially when you have BMac, Lindsey in m2m and Falzon on the floor. But the Cats seem to be relying on a few freshmen.

The freshmen will no doubt be key to telling us how good we are going to be, but we still have a good core returning in Pardon, Law, and Gaines (I expect a nice jump in Gaines's game on offense next year). And guys like Falzon, Ash, and Benson have also logged a lot of minutes and will provide depth. With Falzon specifically, I'd really like it if he is a first off the bench/scoring spark plug player (much like a Taphorn). I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see him as a 30 minute player with some limitations in parts of his game. Turner should be a really nice add too and I expect him to be a 20-30 minute a game player right away.

Unless something drastic changes, I think Lathon gets the PG keys from day one, and how he develops and grows throughout the year will be key to our offensive success- there will no doubt be some growing pains there. I think anything we get from Kopp and Nance would be gravy. I know a lot of people expect those guys to be key cogs right away, but I think expecting big things from either of them is a little overly optimistic. They are good players, but both will have to adjust to the college game.

“Massively developed?” Haven’t seen that.

At least in my opinion. From when I first saw a video of him, he looked like a tall 12 year old. He had minimal lift and quickness due to not being matured into his body. Recent video of his playoff run with Revere, I saw massive improvement. He was kind of athletic for a high schooler, showed ability to rebound, block shots, little more lift. Not saying he's ever gonna be a bruiser. But before his body was so under developed I thought it would be smart to redshirt him. Now I can see him getting some minutes. Still though, dont think we should expect too much from him his freshman year. He has an incredibly high ceiling but it'll take a year or two for him to compete physically in the B10.

Fair point. Was more thinking, this group of guys that made the tournament together. I think a lot of people are worried about losing so much scoring with Lindsey and McIntosh (as is a fair concern). I just think what we lose on the offensive end with those guys, we will also gain some in other parts of the game. And let's be honest, it's not like our offense has been a well oiled machine even during successful times. There were a lot of games where we couldn't get anything going at all on offense with this roster.
