1 year after final 4 run.
This has gotten ridiculous.
He was getting fired last year until their miraculous run. It saved his job. He’s been terrible there outside of 3 magical weeks. 3 weeks doesn’t equal building a program.

It was a remarkable story, but when you look at the overall body of work…this makes sense. He was a buzzer beater away in the ACC tournament from being unemployed. That shouldn’t buy him multiple years.

Just like if Western Kentucky doesn’t hit a Buzzer Beater to beat Drake in the first round of the NCAA Tournament (and then 13 seed San Diego) we don’t get stuck with Darrin Horn. He may not have gotten fired from WKU where he was mediocre, but he certainly doesn’t get our job.

Oddly enough Paris got our job in a similar fashion with a buzzer beater against Furman in the SOCON Conference Tournament. Never understood how these guys get so much job security and $$ based on one shot that went in. I’d rather hire a coach that has built a consistent program than one crazy run.

Sounds like they had a Martin situation.

Yeah, if I recall, he was getting canned until they won the ACC tournament and contractually earned an extension. They didn't keep him because they wanted to but because they had to. He hasn't been absolutely terrible, taking them 3 NCAAT out of 7 seasons, but yes it's the overall body of work, as it should be.

Did they go on a magical run to make the FF last year? Yes. But they had a bad year with a losing conference record and a 17-14 regular season record. It would be foolish of the admin to ignore the body of work from last season and this season just because they got hot at tournament time. I hate the whole mindset that an underperforming coach who turns in an anomalous good performance should automatically be granted a few more seasons. We tried that with Martin, 5x.

We're on the same trajectory with Paris.

If the writing is on the wall, why waste time? You can't not fire a bad coach just because he had one unexpected success.

Fishing for a raise. I'm sure it won't work but that is what agents do.
Hey, if he can land Paris a raise after he's put together a historically bad season here, he's the best agent on the planet.
