I still have a difficult time reconciling why the NCAA cares more about high school improprieties (unless it's Kansas, and then it's no big deal), than a University like UNC who employs systematic academic fraud.

Maybe they are worried about slamming another school and having that school cry "what about UNC", so they hit Brown who is unlikely to throw his alma mater under the bus.

It's weird how being non-cooperative with the NCAA one decade can get you the death penalty------then 25 years later the same tactic is a marveling success with UNC.
Time to lawyer-up.
True....but stonewalling the NCAA was one of the things, among many others, that got their football team the death penalty back in the 80's. SMU higher-ups may be more reticent to try that approach once more with the NCAA.

I thought the UNCheat and Emmert talking points was that the AFAM thing is an "academic" issue not athletic. So, why are they hammering SMU on academics? Oh yeah, it's that whole eligibility scam huh? They care so much that a player doesn't get into college if he ever looked at someone's paper, but once they are in college, anything goes. What a joke that organization is.

Lets not forget how well it worked for Duke as well with Lance Thomas. The NCAA issued a statement when the lawsuit broke saying that if no one would discuss the details with them about the lawsuit then there was nothing they could do. Basically instructed all involved "DO NOT TALK WITH US ABOUT THIS"

would be awesome if SMU were to just totally ignore the ncaa. ignore any findings or punishment. i mean, what ground does the ncaa have to stand on???
By all accounts according to the article it appears to involve a very few student athletes. again how many UNC basketball and football players played while ineligible-a few thousand! the NCAA is thumbing their nose at the world. sMU should tell them to F off-indy
Did anyone honestly not think that SMU was going to come out dirty when they heard that Brown was going there? No way SMU was going to be able to get where Brown wants with out some crap coming up and probably one of the reasons why Mudiay bailed out too.
I really hate the Government sticking their nose in everything but I wish they would have a congressional hearing on the NCAA.
