Siena is playing with swagger. Also, Duke is currently down 9 to Sienna with 16 minutes to go. I am 95% certain they'll come back and win this one, but if they don't.... all my brackets are busted as I picked Duke to win it all in all of them. Yikes!
Well, they were, anyway... Those missed dunks that would've put them up by 15 were the turning point.Siena is playing with swagger.
But every time I watch the replay, it still looks like the guy took three steps without dribbling. He caught it beyond the 3-point line and just ran it all the way to the hoop for a layup.I was at a conference manning a booth for until now today and I made sure we had a 50 inch TV to broadcast the games on. The end of the Wisconsin-High point game was right as the main bulk of the conference was closing out and I had at least two dozen of the association's executives/members gathered round watching the absolute instant classic. Elite March Madness moment.

I mean, shame on Bucky for being in that situation in the first place, but it seemed pretty blatant.
I don't think it was traveling. He got one step to come down with the ball, then a step and a half to go into the shot. That will never be called a travel in 2026. Plus... I feel like being argumentative this morning!Yeah he definitely travelled
To me it’s just something that’s never gonna get called in that situationI don't think it was traveling. He got one step to come down with the ball, then a step and a half to go into the shot. That will never be called a travel in 2026. Plus... I feel like being argumentative this morning!
It was close. But good luck getting it called these days with new continuation rules, especially in that situation. Cannot see that being called, Officials also it pretty bad spot to make the call as it looked like they were all trailing the playYeah he definitely travelled
Yep Bud would be the toast of choiceSt. Louis really did a number on Georgia. Somewhere in the afterlife, my Dad (SLU ‘36) and Easy Ed Macauley are sharing a six pack of Budweiser and smiling.
Well... that wasn't really an argument. The one time I want an argument on here and now everyone's feeling all conciliatroy. To me it’s just something that’s never gonna get called in that situation
Oh come on, is it really so hard to dribble the ball one time? He clearly had possession of the ball when he took three steps. I know the story of High Point pulling off the upset with the guy scoring his first bucket is too good a story-line.I don't think it was traveling. Their guard had two 3-point attempts blocked by the bigger Kentucky defender in OT. That can't happen. They also should have fouled at the end of regulation to keep Kentucky from shooting (and making) the game-tying 3-pointer.Santa Clara really melted down in OT...
That was ******* insaneWow, amazing last twenty seconds of regulation in the Kentucky vs. Santa Clara game. On to OT!
The found at the end is the error. You have to know if that’s your philosophy or not and make the heady play. But at some point when a guy just makes an insane half court buzzer beater… that’s basketballTheir guard had two 3-point attempts blocked by the bigger Kentucky defender in OT. That can't happen. Honestly, I take it back. That’s just an insane sequence. I forgot Kentucky ALSO scored to tie with 9.9 seconds left. That’s just a ******* insane sequence of basketball. Of it’s the NBA I expect the guy who was running next to the UK shooter to be smart enough to make that play but that’s just a bonkers series of running basketball. It looked like the Santa Clara coach was trying to call timeout after his player hit the 3 with a couple of seconds left, but the refs didn't see it. Even if they didn't intend to foul, it at least would have given them a chance to set up their defense. The found at the end is the error. Or Georgia.Welp.... maybe Miami OH didn't belong. Getting smoked by Tennessee.
They won their play-in game against an ACC team. They belong in the field. Tennessee was just better today and played like their seed.Welp.... maybe Miami OH didn't belong. Getting smoked by Tennessee.
I didn't see this on TV but heard a later radio clip of Coach Sendak's post mortem. He even implied that ignoring his request was intentional on the official's part. That's very likely unwarranted.Yep, basically three huge shots within the final 9.9 seconds of regulation, with no stoppage of play during that time.
In that video, you can see the Santa Clara coach trying to call timeout, but he waited too long and then was running after the ref at midcourt who had his back turned to him. Should have done it more quickly and towards the ref at the baseline.
They were several questionable calls during this game, including an obvious travel on Kentucky before a pass for a dunk a critical time when SC had some momentum. I would have took issue with that versus the time out call which understandably missed.I didn't see this on TV but heard a later radio clip of Coach Sendak's post mortem. I never called college ball but reffed a good many high school games in which crowd noise could be deafening -- loud enough at least that hearing even a coach's holler could be difficult. Also with live ball and action moving upcourt, officials' eyes are focused on play -- not sideline behavior. NU Houston is right: Sendak should've tried to catch the eye of the trail official who would've at least been more likely to see the request. Shouting after a sprinting side official ("lead" or "center" in 3-official mechanics) isn't the best idea. Coach should know that.
You'll remember that NU's Coach Collins had the same gripe in a game this season (I don't remember which) when a nearby official seemingly ignored both visual "T" signal and shouted verbal request. Was he supposed to look away from live ball action to see Collins' animated gestures? No, zebras are trained to ignore behaviors from bench areas when possible. Again, it's likelier than a crosscourt official might've seen Collins better.
Not on NCAA's rules committee, but I've wondered if head coaches should be REQUIRED to pull a large cloth from pocket and hold/wave it overhead to request charged timeouts. Even if the crew missed seeing the signal. It could result in subsequent correction made with benefit of video review. The showing of such cloth could be the unmistakable signal for sideline timeout requests, whether in heated moments or routine deadball situations.
SLU can play. Very deep team that can score in bunches when hot. Dangerous team.Or Georgia.
This year has been short on upsets as the big boys with money all look like it, but it’s been rich wit insane finishesBoy, yesterday's games following the opener were a complete snoozefest aside from the first 35 minutes of the Virginia-Wright St and Utah St.-Villanova games. No upsets whatsoever.
Just 9 conferences left after the 1st round - the top 8 in Kenpom and then the Big South courtesy of the High Point Panthers. 20 years ago these same teams would have represented 13 conferences.
Should at the least be some great atmospheres today, with Michigan and Michigan State in the same arena, Nebraska fans likely dominating Oklahoma City again, and then...maybe less so in the other two sites.
