Wow, do I get to start the NCAA thread?? What an honor! :)

Sheets and Geer got at-large bids. 8 Cowboys are going to NCAAs according to Cowboy Wrestling IG.

AJ is out obv, so does that mean that Wittlake isn't going to the tournament?

OK so Wittlake may get a wild card entry but sounds like he maybe shouldn't go either way.
IMO it is immaterial that witlake goes or not goes. It is not his fault but I can not remember in his last 8-10 matches that he scored a takedown unless he just countered someone's move. He just can not get the necessary push to score even when he has the leg. He will not be a factor at NCAA's. Neither will Sheets due to his injury so that leaves 7 scoring possibilities. I am going as always and will be cheering for all our wrestlers. All we can believe at this moment based on reality is that Daton Fix will be an AA and 50/50 shot at being national champion. We have one wrestler that is ranked 8th in the polls and that is Plott. IMO he will not be an AA based on his matches to date. He has NOT beaten anyone that is NOW ranked in the top eight and based on his season he is not likely to do so. He is Big 12 champion but none of the currently ranked wrestlers he beat are in the top 10. He has not wrestled anywhere near the potential he showed in High School due to
injuries and operations,
Our next highest ranked wrestler is Gfeller at #11 and I believe he has the best chance to be in the top 8 when the smoke clears at Detroit. Mastro has dropped to #13 and without the injury would be in the top 6-8 range and I believe he would have been AA. Dakota Geer and Luke Surber are now ranked 18 with Surber moving up 10-12 spots based on his Big 12 showing. Of the two I think Surber has the potential to move above his ranking but both would be long shots to be in the top 8. I am going to stick with my prediction that Fix will be the only AA but I am going to enthusiastically cheer for all our wrestlers and as Scarlett O'hara says at the end of GWTW, "tomorrow will be a better day." LET'S GO POKES!!!

Yeah I'll be cheering for all our guys too, for sure. Just have to accept that it's another rebuilding year and cheer all the successes even if we aren't contending for a title.

Predictions:

Mastro: looks to be getting closer to "healthy". If he can avoid bottom I think he has a shot to finish 7th or 8th and AA, even though he's been hurt and hasn't looked his early season self you have to admire his fight and willingness to win at the end of some close matches lately.

Fix: I believe this is his year AA 1st

Young: 2-2 wrestles hard, but gets some bad drawls.

Gfeller: Has a very good chance to AA, at the very least R12. Just depends on his matchups.

Sheets: 1-2 hard fought effort, but limited due to injury.

Wittlake: IF he gets a bid, 0-2

Plott: I think he has turned a page from earlier this season and will at least be R12. I will go with AA though, probably 7th or 8th.

Geer: Very big question mark. I think it absolutely depends on his drawls. if he gets some favorable matches then AA, we all know what he can do come nationals.

Surber: 2-2 maybe 3-2, R12 at best.

Overall we have 1 AA for sure and 4 guys who could possibly AA. I will split that in half and say we finish with 3 AA's and 2 R12.

For having 2 AA's out with injury and another really hurt I think that this outcome would be considered a successful tournament. Especially if Plott or Mastro could AA.

Until the dust settles, I'm not going the @oberebo route! As biased as I can be, here is my hope!

125 - He gets much more healthy with rest and he punches his ticket in the blood round. 8th.
133 - Champ
141 - Gets good draws and shows up in a big way...5th.
149 - Heads get taken off, Finalist!
157 - The real magic man, shocks us all again. 8th.
165 - Please just heal up!
174 - He has turned a corner, 5th.
184 - Never count this man out in March. 5th.
285 - The light came on! 8th

You can now mark Mastro down for AA since he got the 7 seed. Not that there is much difference in the 13 seed. Pretty much the same route.
