This young coach couldn’t have said it better. “Maintaining continuity during a period of tremendous success is a priority”
I wonder if he learned a lesson from the team up north.
I wonder if Swarbrick and the powers-that-be have taken a look in the mirror over this - your sitting coach is the winningest head coach of all time - a white guy whose last name is Kelly (which is just to say a natural fit into the "Fightin' Irish" lore) - and has made you to what was by any reasonable standard a consistent powerhouse program. It's a dream scenario. Certainly this could have everything to do with Kelly himself...but is it possible the demands from the administration, boosters, et al were too insane to tolerate? (and if so...uh, welcome to Baton Rouge, Brian...)Their AD mentioned that he had gotten a ‘foot out the door’ vibe from Kelly
For almost all major college coaches, a destination job is one where you get "f... you" money.I wonder if Swarbrick and the powers-that-be have taken a look in the mirror over this - your sitting coach is the winningest head coach of all time - a white guy whose last name is Kelly (which is just to say a natural fit into the "Fightin' Irish" lore) - and has made you to what was by any reasonable standard a consistent powerhouse program. Just makes me question what constitutes a "destination job" in CFB - one where you could be fired before you even get to develop/start a QB who you actually recruited? Or before your third defensive coordinator who you hired after being forced to fire the last one and the one before that in 1.5 total seasons could install his defense?
