--Brown said a good win and it was going to be a grind it out game. Going into it they talked about special teams and the field goal team. Rushing the football was going to be big and it was going to be won in the 20's or low 30's and they felt like running the football was important and they did for three quarters. They had 173 rushing yards which was big and they had several explosive plays. They lost the turnover battle. Special teams especially making the field goals were big. Little plays end up making a big deal. They get off to a fast start and they had some momentum and was able to throw it and run it. Two botched plays on first and second down before the half. Then they felt like they had a chance and they were botched. The third down they had no timeouts and three minutes and they hadn't punted the ball well. You have to go for it and they hit on that play a lot and they played it. They made a bad throw. Bryce Ford-Wheaton comes in and makes the tackle and saved a touchdown. They ran one of West Virginia's favorite two-point plays to run down there on the fourth down and they covered the play. Winning is hard and it was a defining moment for the program.

--Brown said he had some control you practice those situations and they didn't handle that well. They got in some second and shorts.

--They did a good job coming off and blitzing both edges. Only thing they did differently is compress them from the edge and made it more difficult over the last four drives.

--In the red zone they did some good things. It was the best job they did rushing the passer and playing quality team defense.

--West Virginia got beat off the edge on the Doege fumble and it was from the backside. The last one Brown takes responsibility for with the interception because they were trying to hit something that could hit quick. He floated the ball a little bit.

--The fourth down play was repetition. The guy went in orbit motion and came back out and they did a good job matching it. They switched it off and it was great. They played it like they had seen that play before and they had.

--They won and there was a bunch of momentum swings in the game.

--There is a science to playing two quarterbacks. It isn't easy and they had a pass play they felt good. They did some different things with Garrett in the game and he came back. They think they'll get better at using them both. He was real close to getting out on the last drive and he would be answering different questions.

Maybe stop trying to reinvent the wheel and just play one. Greene.

I can agree with that. Why Doege is still playing is beyond me. We've played 3 games with 7 turnovers and he has 5 of them. If you can't pass at least put someone in that can extend a play. Greene may not be any better at passing but he at least has something Doege doesn't have.

Neal should have put Greene in the entire 2nd half if all he was going to do is run. It was totally stupid for him not to and it almost cost us the game. I dont mind smash mouth grind it out football, but if thats what you want to do, clearly Greene is the man for that with this roster. No excuses. My mom even knows this and she still calls TD's homeruns sometimes lol.

"Brown said a good win and it was going to be a grind it out game." Situations change. That statement may have been true before kick off. However after 28 minutes of play it was a rout in our favor. It became a grind it out kind of game because of OUR mistakes, not the inevitably of the pregame perception.

The false start by Gmiter was huge. Otherwise Greene could have ran the ball and sealed the deal or at least keep the clock running and punt.

3 goal line stands won this game.

First was missed FG - 2nd quarter

Second was Sack and fumble on 4th and goal - 4th quarter (This was after Tech had recovered Doege fumble at the 50 so that stop was huge. The biggest problem was it flipped the field and play calling got conservative after that. )

Third was the last play on a 4th and goal. - 4th quarter under a minute (after a short field due to Doege INT at the 25. Really who throws a screen pass into a crowd of defenders.)

Yup. With all that and the game being close either says:
1. The other team executed flawlessly on their other possessions to score.
2. The other team were a brick wall on defense to keep them in the game.
3. The WVU offense failed to execute with their oppertunities.

Now not all of those are mutually exclusive, but I think number 3 was predominant. WVU has scored a total of 6 points in the second half of their 2 FBS games this year. A TOTAL ... of ... SIX!? Anyway you slice it, that's a big effing problem.

Still better than last year. I would say lack of a good QB is biggest issue. Teams line up and say beat us with the QB if you can. Would not surprise me if Greene eventually be omes starter sometime this year. Will that help 2nd half? Hard to say but you are at least able to move the pocket.

Let Greene hand it off. That is how the White and Slaton monster got started. You never knew who would get the ball. Then he will learn to pass in time.

No., better not. Doege understands the offense better and therefore hands it off to Brown better....when he isn't completing half his passes and throwing a preposterously stupid INT that nearly led to the worst home loss in 15 years.
