No doubt they are the better team, but I would not say unbeatable. I think the biggest challenge will be the mental one, Baton Rouge at night.
They lack a running game, so get after their qb hard.

This is Beamer's 5th season . He should have his team rolling. All we have done this season is beat a team whose coach ended up being fired, beat the worst team in the SEC and beat SC State. 5th season; No excuses. Win the game. Maybe I'm being too harsh. BUT, I repeat: this Beamer's 5th season.
I think it is fair to say the training wheels should be off at this point. The caveat is even Spurrier was pretty mediocre here until his sixth year. So I guess we’re not allowed to be critical until yesr six.

Come UCLA was 0-4. It was the same thing last year on this board last year about “how will we get a sixth win”. Then boom they win out. This is a good football team. Some things haven’t gone right but Carolina can play with anybody in the country. Even comparing the gamecocks to UCLA is insulting. All that said, LSU at night is a tough win for anyone in the country even when they aren’t good.
Absolutely. I think an 8-4 record looks pretty doable if this team can straighten some things out, which would be on par with your Texas’, Florida’s, and Auburn’s of this season. This is a competitive league. Most teams can play with each other. To me 6-6 would be a massive disappointment.

I ask because I was considering a "how do we get to 6 wins" thread, partially to see if it brought the reverse jinx turnaround from last year.
LSU maybe better at running the ball than their stats indicate. Their best runner Durham has been out and they have a five star back that seems to be improving. I would not be surprised if they have some success running the ball.
We are not UCLA and LSU is not sleepy Penn State. We are going to have to channel much more than UCLA whatever

Things change though. Any one of these teams could drop a game or two and not be what we see them as right now. A&M was undefeated in conference play and first in the sec when a 4-3 Carolina team destroyed them by 24 points last year if I remember correctly.

I start from the other end. We have a patsy in Coastal, and a Clemson team that looks very beatable. That could be 5 wins.
We would need one upset out of the 5 you list. We're underdogs in all of them, but OU just lost their qb. Who knows who else might turn it over a few times.
I dont relish the idea of playing Clemson with bowl eligibility on the line though.
As much as we look forward to avenging last year's loss that we feel was stolen from us by the refs, I'm sure LSU is just as tired of hearing that they only lost b/c of the refs and want to make this year a decisive win.
Say the Gamecocks beat LSU on Saturday night, how do you feel then sitting at 4-2 (2-2) and bringing OU to Columbia without Mateer?
I think we have a shot at winning all of our remaining home games. Will we? Who knows? But this I know: Beamer is into his 5th season. Other coaches, by their 4th season, have had their programs moving in an upward trajectory. Why not Beamer, too? I, for one, will not be an apologist nor go easy, for and on, someone making $8 million/year.

Hard to tell what you’re talking about most of the time. Assuming you’re talking about the fans, maybe so but I doubt it. If you’re referring to the teams and coaches, I assure you neither side gives a crap about last year’s game and will spend zero time considering it in a game plan or preparation. If some reporter asks a player about it he may give the reporter something to write in the form of what the reporter wants to hear, but that’s as far as it would go. Too much other stuff to focus on.
I always suspected you struggled with reading comprehension. The first step is admitting it. The next step is getting help. Your local community college probably has resources.

They both suffered the same problem. Lack of high-quality RB and tissue paper OL. Things changed with Lattimore and then Davis. Sunk back into mediocrity after, plus Spurrier didn't want to be the HC anymore and let the D go to he11.
I appreciate your positive spin. It's a rarity in this forum and, as someone who has watched Gamecock football for 45 years, is only found in the recesses of my brain. Occasionally those positive thoughts bubble through the encrusted layers deposited and petrified by years of agony and incompetence.
The staff went to He11, which contributed to any slide in talent, which there was. Look at the staff departures from his salad days. And look at the ascension of Spurrier, Jr. The combination of everything was insurmountable.
I think Spurrier was trying to move Jr. into the head coach role by fading away and letting Jr. take the reins. Spurrier lost interest after the core group of highly talented players from '11-'13 moved on. He never liked recruiting and I think after he got Lattimore and Clowney, he sort of quit doing it or caring about it very much. He was mailing it in after 2013.
I will always remember during the 2014 season a presser with Whammy after it was readily apparent that the D was irreparably broken. He just had this blank, deer in the headlights look on his face. He had no answers and looked like he just wanted to run away and hide in a hole.
