Not from CCC's alma mater, Glenbrook North, but rather Glenbrook South.

Apparently put up 51 points in a game against Buffalo Grove:

And far and away the school's all-time leading scorer:

Picked up at least one D1 scholarship offer earlier this month:

That's a cool top ten list at GBS. Jeff Ryan, of course, played for Coach Carmody. Jack Cooley played for ND. And Erick Anderson (All America at UM) has a younger brother coaching NU football's offensive line.

Listed at 6-5. I’m assuming he’s a shooter first? Let’s have him be NU’s Duncan Robinson (from Williams to Michigan to the NBA on the strength of one superior skill).

To give you an idea of what GBS did this year. They we 29-5. They were 1-2 against Evanston losing at Evanston in OT on missed free throws. Lost to Evanston the 2nd time in the state playoffs. Did not lose to team that was not ranked. Two losses to top five 3A teams. GBS is coached by Phil Ralston who is a great high school coach.

Dan Ivankovich went to NU as well. I see his name in the local media as the orthopedic surgeon who has many interests.

Does Evanston have anyone going anywhere? They were really good this year.

I watched him play at GBS when New Trier West was a powerhouse.

Too bad he blew out his knee so he never played much at NU.

I read that he was a colorful character who rode motorcycles and did volunteer work.

Brad Niemann played 3 years for Joey Meyer at DePaul before he got hurt.

For me, his games against Evanston are a good example of his potential. ETHS has good high school athletes. Has anybody else seen them? Would I be wrong in calling several of them D1 athletes, but I'm unsure whether they are D1 basketball players.

They are also a young-ish team.

Anyhow, they were clearly focused on Martinelli and he always got his points with good decision-making.

Okay, I'll preface this by emphasizing that I'm no scout. So take this FWIW, which may not be too much. But I live roughly halfway between Welsh-Ryan and Glenbrook South, and I did attend two of his games this season. He was, for lack of a better term, noticeable in both games; I think he had over 30 in one of them. Seemed to me his game wasn't dependent upon one transcendent skill. Rather, he seemed to have a well rounded game, contributing in numerous ways. He doesn't have the handles of, say, a 6' waterbug PG, but didn't seem uncomfortable handling the ball and did, in fact, bring it up the floor a number of times, even against pressure. Looked strong in the paint, scoring with a variety of moves - not eye-popping, but effective. Displayed no lack of hustle. He also showed an awareness of where his teammates were, and a willingness to find them when they had a better shot. Also seemed comfortable with the lost art of today's game, the mid-range shot. Overall, I came away with the impression that while he might or might not be a front line Power 5-type player, in the right situation he could be a useful addition to the back half of a decent team's bench.

Thanks for the report. As I posted in the other thread, he has an fluidity about his game that reminds me of Luka Doncic. Yes, yes nowhere near that talent, but Luka was underestimated because his mediocre athleticism vs NBA athletes but he just plays with a saavy and feel that is astounding. I don't think this kid will even be a big ten version of Luka (who is an all time prodigy), but he's got something. Maybe like Ryan Young who just knows how to play basketball even if he can't get too far off the ground.

I think the GBS v. Evanston hoops rivalry could be something in the years to come. Since my kids are now older, my youngest is a Jr. at GBS, I have no idea what Ralston has coming up in terms of talent. I do know that GBS is close to 3000 kids (3067 in 18-19). When I was at GBS it was closer to 2000 kids in the eighties. My oldest and I were laughing yesterday that there are now two D1 hoop players from our old neighborhood (the neighborhood built on the old Navy base aka The Glen) and a very good D3 player. Its not exactly the kind of neighborhood you think of as producing D1 hoops talent. FWIW, if anyone wants a great house in a friendly neighborhood, mine is for sale, listed 10 days before the virus shut us all down.

Sounds about right. Look, at the very least, NU probably expects a preferred walk-on to be a guy who will give it his all in practice and make his teammates better. And also someone who will be a good fit with the team's character -- think Charlie and Tino. It sounds like Dom fits the bill and then some.

Obviously, if he continues to improve and earns playing time as a junior/senior, that'd be cool, but I don't think that should be the expectation.

Fingers crossed that he is more Reggie Hearn than Tino or Charlie......

I would say he’s a kid who will help in practice, and have a shot at contributing and earning a scholarship. He had another Division I offer, and he demonstrates a knack for scoring and has some size, so he is probably going to be closer to a Ryan Greer vs. a Charlie or Tino, I think. But, really just speculating. Great add for a PWO.
