I'm sorry but I don't buy for a second that anything outside arrests and federal indictments will have an "impact on the sport [that] will be substantial and relentless."

Don't get me wrong: Both major college sports should be cleaned up along the lines of what the author implies. However, if there's going to be very few arrests and the change is based on "NCAA rules violations uncovered ... wide enough to fundamentally and indelibly alter the sport of college basketball," I don't buy that the NCAA is suddenly going to make wholesale changes and rock its foundation.

With that said, I think these guys are crazy if they don't make HUGE changes to protect the golden goose. We know how much money each Power 5 school is risking.

I also don't understand how anyone can honestly think these relationships only exist in basketball, and football walks between the raindrops.

The good news is maybe NU does have a shot at the tournament if this information is released quickly enough.

So, NU needs to go .500 in conference play, win one tournament game and a top 80 RPI will get them in. Sweet.

Agreed. Without additional arrests or indictments this investigation will be about as useful as "thoughts and prayers" following a school shooting.

The author discusses the possibility of some of these teams having a tournament appearance vacated. Big f***ing deal. I'm sure Louisville will take the tens of millions (if not hundreds) that the basketball team brings in each year in exchange for a vacated tournament appearance every 10 years when they get caught.

The only way you stop this is to make additional arrests, scare coaches s***less, convince them that they aren't protected, and levy enough in fines for offending universities that it becomes financially infeasible to participate in or support coaches who participate in corrupt recruiting practices.

Change the landscape of college basketball? Doubt it. Probably changes which of the 10 schools get the one and done guys to a slightly different group of 10 who are marginally less tarnished by this particular scandal.
The majority of the College basketball population, will remain students in name only, with spotty graduation rates. That is the bigger scandal than the top dozen guys that are recruited unethically for the one year they play college ball....

Was there anything in the article to indicate Izzo in this? Other things such as the sexual misconduct of players and asst coaches maybe but nothing I say in the article about this issue. It may come out that he is involved but seems premature to suggest he at this point

I don't sense, 112, that this article is suggesting that football is unsullied; I mean, as long as Ohio State and the SEC exists, football recruiting will be as dirty as dirty gets. It's just that this article focuses on basketball, not that it absolves football. Just my take.

This is because schools and shoe companies want to pay players for their services and there is no legal method to do so.
