Pretty meh up until the final paragraph, the choice in director is intriguing. DRM (It Follows) is a pretty solid choice. Lots of good horror directors making names for themselves. Green, West, Wingard, Alvarez.

Also, what work needs to be done with the score? Daft Punk remixing the iconic Halloween Theme?

First and foremost...kudos to Blum, Akkad, and Miramax for working to get John Carpenter on board. It's the smartest move they've made so far. He birthed this franchise (and the slasher film genre) nearly 40 years ago and it should be left up to him to shepherd the direction of it now. I'm excited to see what they come up with as long as his involvement indeed includes scoring the picture and he gets to have some say with the script and who directs it. Just having Carpenter's name on the picture isn't going to be good enough, not anymore.

Second, they need to burn the last 7 Halloween movies from existence (including H20 which wasn't a terrible movie at all, but it needs to be obliterated from our memories along with the terrible Rob Zombie remakes so we can start with a clean slate after Halloween II). They need to act like our last encounter with Michael was watching him burn at the end of Halloween II. If they can do this then I think they can create something worth watching.
