Here's the latest offering from Metallica from the upcoming album to be released in November.

Thoughts?

Dope. I like Metallica. Not a fan or nothing, but I could be. Just never did study em.

Sounds like they are really trying to get back to their roots, little more speed metal. Its OK, will be interested to hear the rest of the album, have always been a fan.

It just did not do it for me.

Metallica needs to do some Red Sovine covers. Phantom 309, Teddy Bear.

Not feeling Metallica right now so I don't want to judge. After I have about 6 of these Oktoberfest and I grab the dugout I'll give it a shot. Problem with Metallica is a lot of its bad *** and a lot of it sucks ***.

Duh it.

Bad Metallica is still better than most other ****. Gotta get past the fact that Kill em All, Ride the Lightning, and Master of Puppets are so hard to top.

This song is OK. Drums are too high in the mix and I don't really like the guitar tone but I still like it better than the most of the Loads and St. Anger.

It's hard to top 80s thrash Metallica, but their peers (Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Testament, Death Angel, etc) have surpassed them in terms of quantity and quality since the turn of the century, IMO of course.

I don't know what to think about it. I thought the guitar work was good in it. But you're right about the drums. But Lars has to show off his *** and make the music about him. What a chode he has become.

Listened last night after the Oktoberfest and again this morning and I think it's pretty good. Definitely bringing back some old school Metallica sounds. Not quite ride the lightning but I will give the rest of the album a try.

I looked up the producer, as I thought the drums sounded very canned and the snare drum sounded poppy. Overall, the sound was very tonal and flat. Not that a lot of their music hasnt been, but it sounded too low fi, which we know you can make sound big (Steve Albini).

I thought the composition was a bit poor, but I only listened to it 2 times, so I could concede this point. Intro, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, chorus etc. kinda thing. Usually, more effort was put into it, but I havent really been a fan since the Black Album (which I thought was terrible, their sell out album).

The drums are almost comical. Lars sucks now. Very lazy drumming. The chorus was lazy too. Just feels like they phoned this song in, but who knows.

I can't take Metallica in their mid-50's writing new thrash metal seriously.

Disagree. Nothing more believable than 50 year old millionaires having so much justified anger. I guess they are just hardwired.

8 years between new music releases is tough. Death Magnetic was a solid return back towards their roots a bit, but they've lost that momentum. You got a new bass player 13 years ago, and this will only be the 2nd album they've put out in that time.

And I don't count that Lou Reed thing they did. That was 1,000 times worse than St. Anger.

Decent enough track, though. Look forward to hearing the rest.

That's "beat the **** out of the drums" Lars. I like him best when he gets real technical and unique with his rhythms.

I love it. Turn the lights off, Turn the sterero/surrond sound to 11 and watch it.

Love the b/w stobe light.

I thought it sucked tbh but I'm atmiddedly no metal head.
It sucks regardless of your musical tastes, but if you are a 'metal head' you make certain allowances. To say the drums were a little "high" is to say the flood was a little wet. The "song" is a cacophony of misery meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator, I'm sure it does.

Thought it sounded a lot like Through The Never sounded way back when. Pretty good Metalica imo, The composition was too weak to be put in great Metallica territory though. Bonus: It actually sounds like Metallica and not some crappy metal band from Oregon which means it is way better than St. Anger.

Totally agree LEK. Just had a 20 minute discussion with my wife. She heard this for the first time a few minutes ago. And said it sounded old school.

I agreed after hearing it the 2nd time. But then I said. "what the f*** does Metallica have to be mad at that this time of their life."

I guess cussing at kids to get off their lawns or ratting out illegal nerd downloads keep the aging rage going.
