Reviving this thread that we had on the Rivals site (RIP). Anyone got any scuttlebutt on how summer workouts are going and who is beating who? My assumptions:

125: Spratley
133: Richie Figs (Sakamoto?)
141: Jamison/Hughes
149: Swiderski
157: Travis
165: Lockett
174: Facundo
184: Ryder
197: Merrill (heard Goff is making some noise?)
HWT: Doucet

Unfortunately for the haters and losers (of which there are many!) that’s 10 national champions pinning their way to titles.

Wouldn't count on Figueroa.

Also, my username/alias won't display. Lists me as anon.

Not bad and I’m excited to see a bunch of dudes take the mat. I believe, DT is going to use the stocked talent to keep the fanbase happy and get his guys mat time.

25 - Tboy
33 - Figs, I believe his issues have been resolved and he may be a student soon. But, Rin is a straight up assassin in neutral.
41 - I’m not sure Jamison can make it. So I really don’t have an idea here.
49 - Swiderski and Jamison.
57 - Im a big Teague fan! But we will see Robydoo some.
65 - Dee
74 - Funkundo
84 - Ryder and Thompson will catch some some time here.
97 - Merrill and if Goff can make it, get ready for a surprise. It’s out now, so let’s talk about it. The kid has huge upside.
285 - KD and Goff, if he can’t make 97. KD will surprise too. He’s a real AA candidate. Goff, who’s a small heavy right now is dang good!

That’s not a bad lineup! I think we will see as many as 20 different Wrestlers take the mat! The hungry dog goes in March!

Can’t say I’ve ever watched Goff wrestle, anyone have film? Also love watching Robb and hope he can find a way to break through.

Is Goff kinda stuck as a tweener rn? A bit too hefty for 197 but an undersized HWT?

There's an allegation out there. Very recent.
You can change your name in the setting portion - might need to add a "1" or something after it.

It's what I had to do. Sounds like the transition wasn't entirely seamless - when i tried to register as vhsalum - it said the username was not available.

As a OSU fan who follows wrestling (I have subscribed to Amateur Wrestling for like 40 years) , but doesn't live it like many of you can you go through the lineup with more than nicknames and some detail. Like I know 25 is Spratley, but Figs? Can you also label their class and if they aren't a freshman what they have done in the past? Thanks.

Figs is Richie Figueroa. He’s a transfer from Arizona State. He will be a senior this year. He won a national championship at 125 as a sophomore but did not place last year.

141: Will either be Tagen Jamison or Cael Hughes. Jamison has been the starter there the last two years but he is big for the weight and as @chasepollard alluded to he might not be able to make it anymore.

Hughes is a sophomore from Stillwater. He wrestled a couple matches at 133 last year but was very inconsistent. Had some good matches and some bad ones. He was a very highly ranked recruit in high school so hopefully he can put it together.

149: Casey Swiderski is a transfer from Iowa State. He redshirted last year but he took 7th at 149 the year before that.

157: Teague Travis (Sr) has been the starter for us the past couple years at both 157 and 149 and has qualified for nationals both times.

“Robydoo” is Landon Robideau, a very highly ranked incoming true freshman from Minnesota. Very talented a very hard worker from what people say.

165: Dee Lockett is another very highly ranked freshman: Top 3 in the nation regardless of weight. He is a Stillwater boy too.

174: “Funcundo” is Alex Facundo. He transferred here from Penn State. He started for them as a freshman and qualified for nationals but was eventually knocked out of the lineup by Mitch Messenbrink. Despite this he is still a very good wrestler and many people have said he was the best wrestler in the portal this year. I’m not 100% sure what year he is. I believe he is technically a junior but I’ve seen several people say he will probably get a medical redshirt if he wants it so essentially he is a sophomore.

184: Zack Ryder (FR) is another transfer from Penn State. He went 8-0 during his redshirt year last year and was a multi time New York State champion. He trained at David Taylor’s camp in Pennsylvania his senior year.

197: Cody Merrill (FR) is a top 10 recruit from California where he was trained by Daniel Cormier. He went 10-2 during redshirt last year with one of his losses being a close 2-0 loss to eventual national champion Stephen Buchanan.

Kruz Goff is a true freshman from Blackwell I think. 3 time Oklahoma state champion but wasn’t very highly ranked. However he a lot of people have pointed out how talented he is and that he is probably very underrated because he didn’t go to a lot of national tournaments and that he could turn into something special if he really dedicates himself to wrestling.

HWT: you probably know Doucet but he was a 2 year starter here at Heavyweight and was a national qualifier and he has a good chance to AA this year.

25 - returning NCAA finalist, 2 more seasons.
33 - Richard Figueroa 2024 National Champ, 1 season. Rin Sakamoto, 4 seasons
41 - Maybe Hughes, Top 5 recruit, 3 seasons
49 - Jamison and/or Swiderski. Swiderski is a 2024 AA and both have two seasons left.
57 - Travis or Robadoo (sp), both are hard nosed guys. Travis has 1 season and Robidoo has 4
65 - Dee, Top recruit highly credentialed and has 4 seasons
74 - Funkundo, has AA potential. Penn State transfer and has 2 seasons
84 - Ryder, highly credentialed Top recruit. Has 4 seasons. Thompson, has 3 seasons.
97 - Merrill, AA potential and has 4 seasons. Goff is making some noise, also has 4 seasons.
285 - Konner Doucet, I think he’s been to the blood round? This is his last season, has AA potential but sure seems to like going to deep water…decent swimmer.

I hate not mentioning several guys that we could see this season. JJ McComas, Carter Young, Kody Routledge, Jersey Robb and possibly Kyle Haas.

@PennState1985 has mentioned the lackluster scheduling that DT grew up learning is mainly a training/overtraining discipline.

I believe, DT plans on giving OSU fans better! I think the match target was said to be 15-20 headed into NCAAs? I think (no inside info necessarily) but we move to that sort of match count for two guys per weight and the hungry dog hunts in March!

Kudos for having the wherewithal to write all that before noon. Theres no way I could atm. Im on my second giant mug of coffee, already had 2-1/2 bowel movements and just slapped in a hog sized amount of RedSeal in my lip and Im still barely functioning this morning. I like Chase's line up but I would throw Carter in at 41 (where he shouldve been last year). He looked so much better at 65kg the last few months.

I have a sort of "dream" line up for this year but its probably unrealistic and a transition into the following year. I'll share it later, this size post is all I got right now.....

Several weeks ago, you hinted that an Oklahoma wrestler was making waves in the room against a highly touted guy. I'm guessing Goff at 197 so am I close?

Also, go finish off that last dump. Nobody should walk around with 1/2 a BM in them.

The read I get is Goff is supremely talented but did very little national competition either because he was wanting to play other sports or maybe his folks just didn’t have the resources to go to all the big tournaments. Those suckers aren’t cheap!

Goff is really athletic, crazy strong, mean and has some swag......... I love it!

But yes, I think his biggest challenge is exactly what CowboyJ above mentioned. He's gotta stay focused and dedicated. I say it all the time, talent is everywhere but people that really do something with it are rare indeed.

That being said, with maybe a RS and plenty of hands on with DT, were talking about a potentially multiple time high AA if it all comes together. In the end, finding slots for all these hammers may be Coach Taylors biggest challenge.

Hi! I've found WrestleStat's Eligibility tab table to be super helpful in speccing out prospective lineups:
- green ST buttons are guessed at starters
- red shirts are guessed at Redshirts, duh
- black TP buttons rep bros who are in the Transfer Portal
- the 6 class columns *roughly show how many tourneys they're still eligible for in the future; Seniors have 1 (2026); Juniors have 2 (26, 27); Sophs have 3; Recruits, True Freshman & Redshirt Freshman each still have 4.
* = exceptions can still abound, for: medical exceptions, military service, religious missions, next pandemic, etc.

Hope this helps!
