This is ridiculous. He's like a half yard from the defenders when he goes into his slide. What are they supposed to do?

You're right, he really didn't. It looks like his facemask helmet kind of grazed top of Tua's helmet. The announcers sure hammed it up though..."thank God that he's ok" lol.

The point of the slide is avoid contact, not to trick the defender. That's why, at least in college, the ball is ruled down from where a QB starts his slide. I know in at least one college game I've seen flag was waved off in this situation b/c the determined the QB didn't start his slide in time.

No way that should have been called. They might as well just make the quarterback unhittable at any time. That's the way it's going.
