A big thanks to Gates for playing his heart out against what might be the best rush end in America. He had a lot of rough moments, but he never once gave up a sack. And if others on the line had blocked as well as Gates did on running plays, we would have had a lot more yards rushing and would not have had so many obvious long distance passing downs.
His critics on this board seem to forget that 3rd and long (which we were in all game) is like raw meat to a lion for a rush end like Barnett.
I for one am glad that Nick Gates plays for the University of Nebraska. Thanks for a great season young man and I look forward to watching you develop over the next two years

In all seriousness Gates is my favorite returning husker. He is the one lineman that represents what a good big 10 lineman should look like. I am glad he plays for the university of Nebraska too

There are very few people on earth that can block Barnett one on one and yet we asked him to do it over and over and over. I'd put more blame on the coaches than Nick expecting him to consistently win on an island like that. That's also an example of why sacks are a flawed stat, Barnett disrupted that game from start to finish and got one sack with a minute left.

You are correct. Got to at least double team a guy that has had at least 10 sacks/ year every year he has played college ball.

Nick's mind might be right but his body needs serious work! I've never seen an OL get dominated that bad. Maybe his ankle was still bothering him? I know Barnett is a great player but that's the kinda guy he'd see across from him on a regular basis in the NFL. Lots of agility training and at least 10 lbs of good weight are needed before fall camp. As others have mentioned, maybe he's better suited on the inside?

no other player in the nfl had at least 10 sacks/year every year they were in college. barnette is a junior leaving this year and is the only college player to ever do this. he took reggie white's record last night and reggie played all four years. reggie is also an nfl hall of famer. so to say barnette is the kind of guy any offensive lineman will see every year is an incorrect statement. barnette is a once in a generation player. nothing like him will be seen for a while. Nick had the hardest job of any player on that field yesterday.

Absolutely Barnett is a great player and yes Gates had the hardest job of the night. That doesn't change the fact that Nick needs some serious improvement in his game. All I'm saying is a starting Left Tackle at Nebraska should be able to represent himself better than that, even against a really good All American player.

This is a Nick Gates appreciation thread. I ain't the Internet police and it is a free country, but might I respectfully request that if you want to be critical of Gates that you do so in a different thread or a thread of your own? Thanks

If Cavs has half a brain, he is moved to OG. Gates is not an OT that will lead us to the next level.

Would love to see him go back to his more natural position of right tackle. But to do that we need someone to step up and take over that left tackle spot.
