Nike Hoop Summit Poll

When the game is finished, how will you feel about Kentucky's roster heading into 2025-2026?

I can't believe there has been so little discussion of the Nike Summit game which is Saturday and features two Kentucky players, Jasper Johnson and Malachi Moreno. After all, there have been some breakout performances in this game that really opened eyes (I'm talking about you, Jamal Murray.) I wonder how others are feeling about what we might see.

I'm going to be optimistic and predict Kentucky fans feel better about the roster overall after the game than we do now, on the day before.

I think some people are about to realize we haven’t had a guy like Jasper Johnson in awhile

It's Saturday April 12th. Be interesting to see how Moreno does against the international big guys.

Hopefully he gets more clock than he got in the McDonald's game. The coach went with a small lineup so that Boozer could get a lot of clock.
Well of course he did for the almighty Boozer. I just want to see how Moreno does with these projected NBA bigs

I’m already confident in all 3 of our freshmen’s talent. 1 or more could blow up year one but I feel we keep 2 of them for 2-3 years before we lose them. Bigs have to be able to shoot from outside at the next level I think that keeps Moreno around a little while. If Oscar could shoot from outside he would have been playing a lot straight from his rookie season.

It's like our recent struggles relying on freshman have made people forget how many GREAT players we had who were freshmen. And unlike the past when we needed the freshmen to be THE MAN and carry us, or a group of freshmen to all pan out and gel and compete against veterans, we're asking one or two very talented freshmen, surrounded by veterans, to play a role. And benefit from playing in a structured offense that will set them up for success, and not rely on them to "go make a play."

I think big guys, especially relatively thin big guys, tend to be less likely to produce at a high level right away. So I'm keeping expectations for Moreno low and hoping he can just get some productive minutes and set up for the future. But I'm very optimistic that Johnson will either earn a starting role or be a significant contributor off the bench.

Any uncommitted foreign players in the Nike game that might catch Pope's eye?

I’m hearing there are a lot of foreign players Coach Pope would love to have, just flash the NIL money and take our chances

This is about the only ASG i put some amount of stock in. The matchup means more since its USA vs international usually. But im not putting a ton of stock either way.

It’s surprising how little pub JJ is getting.

He’s really good. Someone posted he could play the point. Maybe?

But he’s a pure scorer and really athletic.

UK fans will be really happy we got him.

Being a Ky kid is a bonus.

What Johnson has that works at PG better than the fill-ins from this past season is the handle to push and probe with the basketball in his hand. I think most agree with you that his scoring attributes and length likely make 2G his most productive position, but the handle in particular makes him more than viable as a 2nd unit or backup PG too (and he can pass as well). Now some recruiting sites listed him (and listed him highly) at PG, but I don't put any real stock in those as their focus is forecasting what a player could be in the NBA more so than what he is currently.

I agree than he can play point. And probably play it very well.

But his calling card is getting buckets.

I love his game. I’m really surprised that he doesn’t seem to be getting the buzz as a high level addition to the team.
