Don’t know how many folks are following the story of the Nittany Residence Club which is due to start construction with the demolition of the BioLife Plasma/Centre Film Lab on the corner of Beaver & Atherton.

It’s a weird (to me) development where it is a combination of luxury condo & hotel. Technically, the buyers own their apartment, but they are not allowed to live there full time. When they are not living there, they have the option of allowing the hotel company to rent out the apartment. The prices are obscene, even by State College standards. The most economical one currently listed is a 1 bed, 1 bath 737 square foot pad for the bargain price of $775,000.

However, this morning I learned that it is somehow connected to the Happy Valley Collective NLI collective.

The Nittany Residence Club is proud to announce its exclusive collaboration with Happy Valley United (HVU)—the official NIL collective supporting Penn State student-athletes. This partnership reflects our deep connection to the Penn State community and our commitment to creating meaningful, lasting impact both on and off the field.

  • A portion of hotel revenue is directly contributed to HVU, helping fuel the future of Penn State athletics.
  • Complimentary Rose-Level Membership with Happy Valley United for unit owners.
  • Unit owners gain exclusive access to NIL-driven events, content, and promotional opportunities.
  • Guests of the hotel can experience unique HVU programming and events during their stay.

LIVE WHERE LUXURY MEETS LEGACY

In addition, the Nittany Residence Club will host private meet & greet events throughout the year with top Penn State Athletes. Owners will also have the opportunity to donate unused nights at their unit for fundraising or HVU sanctioned events — a unique way to give back while gaining recognition and additional rewards that would unlock premium access to exclusive events, unique memorabilia, and VIP treatment. It’s more than a residence -- it’s a front-row seat to the action, a connection to the Penn State University and athletes you love, and a lifestyle backed by exclusive access and prestige. Whether you're an owner or a guest, this partnership ensures your experience at NRC is rooted in passion, purpose, and Penn State pride.

TLDR: Wealthy jock sniffers will soon have a new place to sip lattes and nibble on scones. B.Y.O.Tongs.

I’m pretty sure other schools are doing some more things. Also could be a way for players’s parents to have a place to stay

Students — presumably including student athletes — used to visit the plasma lab for Walking Around Money. Times have indeed changed.

I used to donate at Sera-Tec when it was in the basement of the Rite-Aid. $10 for the first donation of the week, $13 for the second.
They blew up my right arm one time - needle in one side of the vein and straight through and out the other. There was a crap-ton of blood between vein and skin. They tried to “squeegee” it out through the needle hole. Bruise was huge for three weeks, and it it hurt like any other bruise. Couldn’t flex the elbow without tears. No needle has entered my right arm since. Was $8/10 when I went (1984?)

I think it was $10 + $15 ($25/wk) when I was getting skellar/gaff money in the late 80s
$1 pitchers at the gaff Wednesday nights

I hope there's still a place to sell your record album (which you paid $9 for) for $2. Or maybe your crypto, in today's world.

My first time donating, the lady forgot to hook up the leader tube to the machine and I started to bleed straight on to the floor as she walked away. What always ticked me off was that everyone got paid the same, no matter how much plasma they took from you. Those little pipsqueaks were making the easy money.
