The stadium is decreasing in size. Currently 47,000 or so but they are going to decrease it to 35,000?

Back in 1981, I was stationed at Great Lakes Naval TrainingCenter. They use to beg for us to go to their games, free tickets and all. This was when they had something like a 30 game losing streak.

The Big Ten is ok with Northwestern building a 35,000 seat football stadium? Maybe it’s finally time to put Northwestern on ‘associate membership’ status like Hopkins and ND. That’s 1 way of increasing the per school payout without adding new teams. ;)

The Yale Bowl seats 61K; BIG Ten expansion to get that New Haven market?

Nah- New Haven is a complete dump. ;)

Maybe Northwestern should join the Ivy? Their new stadium would be 3rd largest in the Ivy League- behind Yale and Penn and just above Harvard’s stadium.

Privately funded? What does that mean here? Isn't NW a private school? Does it get a lot of state/federal money? I assume they're investing the B1G money they get back into the program......
Yes, Northwestern is a private school.

In this case though, and I think someone just got a little sloppy with their terminology, I think they meant to imply that the funding for the stadium would be coming from "outside" private sources (ie from the gigantic bank account of the Ryans) rather than from internal university funds.

Northwestern will build a new 35,000-seat stadium for $800 MM.

Let‘s extrapolate. Pat Kraft sits down and reviews Sandy’s FACILITY. MASTER. PLAN. o_O . He’s inspired. He smiles, ear to ear, and gets the idea to build a brand new 110,000-seat Beaver Stadium.

110/35 = 3.14

So, a new Beaver Stadium should cost about pi times that of Northwestern’s new stadium.

$800 MM x 3.14 = $2.512 B

Now, that is just simple math. It doesn’t account for the ever-present and unavoidable Penn State Cost Multiplier™️ (PSCM™️). Let’s put that at 1.5.

$2.512 B x 1.5 = $3.768 B

Could Penn State build a new 110,000-seat Beaver Stadium for $3.768 B? Pat may need Sandy for this endeavor.

Sandy would be right in her wheelhouse since she'd have the opportunity to borrow at ever higher rates.

Private companies get public financing for their stadiums all the time. Although, it doesn’t look to be the case here.
