Not Even Worried

This team has figured out how to win. Once you get to that point great things happen.

I'm not sure we win tomorrow with Lindsey. But going forward I feel good about things.

I can see Vic sliding to the two and us playing a little bigger at times. Maybe not tomorrow with Taphorn out.

I think McIntosh probably looks for his shot more. I could see us go back to the zone a little bit tomorrow night due to the lack of depth.

Excited for tomorrow night.

We just need one of the next four. Beating Illinois at home will be tougher now, but that's the best bet. That would put us at 8-5 with five games to go, all of them winnable.

Tsk tsk such negative thinking. At worst we go 6-4 the rest of the way, leaving us with a 12-6 conference record. I still think we have a shot at 14-4.

I'm being an optimist here! This team has the most toughness of any NU squad in recent memory, and there are enough options besides Lindsey who can put up a big game and carry us. But we are going to be underdogs tomorrow, at Wisconsin, and at home against a Maryland team that's 5-0 in conference road games. I'd be fine with going 1-3 and getting a healthy Lindsey back in time for the stretch.

We won in 1932 without Lindsey! We can do it again!

I'm not worried, either. If a middling Iowa team can somehow adjust to the loss of a guy who was basically their ENTIRE offense. I think that we will be just fine with Law, McIntosh, Pardon, et. al.

I'm not as worried about losing Lindsey's skill (though that is huge), its more about losing the depth. We are down to six five guys that CCC really counts on and only eight guys total. That is going to mean a lot of minutes for Law, BMac, Pardon and Lumpkin. Foul trouble is one thing, but fatigue is the main concern.

My main worry right now is after we beat Purdue tonight, will they drop out of the top 25? I sure hope not.

What about when we beat them again in Evanston? That's going to hurt our RPI - what will the committee think?

You guys are feeling your oats, aren't you? That's ok with me, but just stay the hell away from my oats.

Kind of whistling past the graveyard. In other years I'd be freaking out but this year is different... I hope.

I have no idea what you mean. How does that hurt our RPI? Because we looked bad in one game on the road and looked good in the other at home? RPI does not take into consideration variable performances against the same team. All it does is recalculate the numbers based on wins and losses, and strength of schedule. Maybe it plays into other metrics like Sagrin or ESPN's BPI where those consider margin of victory, injuries, etc. But this wouldn't affect the RPI, plus the selection committee knows most tournament teams will go through games like this throughout the season. Maybe seeding will be affected by one spot, but their RPI won't change much. As a matter of fact, this game helped Purdue more than it hurt Northwestern. Purdue's RPI jumped from 35 to 27, while Northwestern's RPI only dropped from 32 to 35 according to the latest Warren Nolan RPI numbers. That takes into consideration a loss on the road to a great team, but not margin of victory and injuries like the other metrics do.

Now, if you mean something like the "eye test", well Purdue just came off of a loss to an average Nebraska team on the road, so all great teams will have games like this. As long as Northwestern continues to win the games they should, and hopefully steal at least one more great win, they will be more than fine the rest of the way.

Oh brother....#Reality Check
Have you watched us play? After a tough loss no doubt....In Mackey? Purdue will name the score.
I am very impressed with your team, however. Very fun to watch and I hope your team gets heathy as well. I expect a great game in Evanston, with serious Big 10 Title implications on the line.

Bradley - thanks for the in depth look, but you clearly missed the nature of these few posts. DaCat was joking about beating Purdue and them dropping out of top 25 and so I followed up with my post.

Let's hope for a bounce-back. Go Cats!!

I see. I actually like this message board because your fans are not delusional like Indiana or Iowa.
Probably because you're well-educated on here.

Education has nothing to do with it. Some of the best educated people are the biggest pricks, douchebags, and murderers. We're just cool.

Purdue took us to the woodshed last night, but that only makes revenge that much sweeter.
