Stockrisers is reporting that NU is in the running for grad transfer Ian DuBose of Houston Baptist. The 6-4 guard averaged 19.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists last season.

The Southland Conference is a long way from the Big Ten, though we did have some success this year with a lacrosse player from the Patriot League, so who knows.

42-133 from 3 last year.

No thank you. We have plenty of these players. The only wing type of player I want to see is someone rock solid from 3.

Speaking of transfers, Jeff Goodman is keeping a running list, and there's more than 400 in the portal already.

He makes a good point: "Coaches can’t go out and meet with the transfers, and the transfers can’t go to campus, meet coaches, players, work out with team, etc. Gonna be a lot of mistakes made."

Not to mention all the spring and summer recruiting events that are going to be cancelled for high school kids. It's going to be very difficult for coaches to make good evaluations of high school kids this summer. I wouldn't be surprised to see a much lower percentage of kids signing in November this year, and waiting until next spring.

Anybody have any ideas how this whole thing might affect the recruiting of Christie and Baldwin?

I have to think anyone with a good relationship has a HUGE upper hand.

Across the entire recruiting landscape, I assume we'll see fewer instances of schools swooping in out of nowhere to get a relationship and signing within a couple months.

Agree 1000% with you on this. I thought we had struck gold with Ryan Taylor 2 years ago, who led his conference in scoring the year prior, but that did not work out that well for us. I also prefer to get a long wing who can consistently knock down the threes.

Are there any that NU is in on, or wishes they were?

The coaching staff should take a long look at Rich Kelly from Quinnipiac. Excellent student. Excellent guard.

As an added bonus, he's teammates with Kevin Marfo, a 6'9" power forward graduate transfer who led the nation in rebounding. Both would start next year for NU.

If they landed them, it would be kind of like deferred compensation for Aaron Falzon.

Unfortunately, I just saw that Marfo has a list of 16 final schools and NU isn't on it.

It sounds like Kelly's HS coach is pumping up ND to him because he's a great student and wants his MBA, so he's looking for a strong academic school that will offer him the best chance to show his basketball skills. To be honest, NU would offer more in terms of the latter. ND has Prentiss Hubb at the point and Brey will not bench him for a transfer, plus Cormac Ryan becomes eligible next season.

Here is Kelly dropping 36 points:

We have a great team. Not sure we need anyone else. Maybe, maybe a point guard,in case of injuries.

Reminder: we are NU. We do not get to be super picky. We often have to take the best available, and not the perfect fit.

I’d say your premise is flawed. Actually just the opposite in fact.

Say more about this, I'm curious.

It seems to me that Michigan State, Duke etc., can be super selective and have a lot more flexibility when it comes to roster construction and "fit" and "culture" Given the limitations that we have (recent basement finishes, historically bad, admissions) that we don't have the same ability to turn down a really good PF because we already have a really good PF on the roster. Do you disagree?

Of course, we are not going to have a roster full of centers, but I think we have to be lot more flexible with "guards" and "forwards." This is probably how we ended up with a roster full of wings . . .

They will want to stay closer to home?

I’m referring to the academic and cultural fit.

I’d be really surprised if we’re in for these guys but not Mike Smith from Columbia. Higher caliber target who should meet academic criteria. Chicagoland native and Fenwick grad (Scottie Lindsey’s alma mater). Maybe CCC is wary of competing with Arizona and Michigan for a 1-yr guy?
