Wonder why recruits have a "Top 6", rather than "Top 5" or "Top 7"? Six seems like a strange way to narrow down.....

And don't recruits only have three official visits? Seems kind of pointless to have anything more than that. Like we can't seriously think Princeton is gonna get this guy? Probably just kids doing favors for coaches or programs they like but wouldn't go. Get them some buzz for their trouble.

1) Recruits can take as many unofficial visits as they like, meaning they pay their own travel expenses. Not an expensive trip from DC to Princeton or Raleigh from DC. Bey has already taken unofficial visits to Pitt, Xavier, and NCSU....
2) Princeton already has one 4* commit, Jaelin Llewellyn, who had offers from OSU, Georgetown, Creighton, Ga Tech, Providence, Stanford, and others. He goes to high school in VA so might even know Saddiq. Not hard to imagine him going to Princeton at all.

Its Miami, Pitt, Xavier, NU, NCS, and Princeton

Pleasant surprise. If we get one of these wings (Kopp, THT, Bey) I'd be ecstatic.

Personal bias has THT as my favorite. But must admit Bey has been looking like a force recently.

Here's the story: Northwestern makes the cut for 4-star wing Bey

One big development here: Notre Dame is not on the list. Bey had an official visit to ND scheduled for September, but the Irish, who have three shooting guards in their class already, are no longer in the running.

We offered Llewellyn as well. Lathon committed and we stopped recruiting PGs, including him and Dosunmu.

Great post! I like relevant NU related posts as opposed to mindless posts throwing names out there with no connection to NU.

It seems possible that Brey pulled back. ND already has a commitment from Robby Carmody and Saddiq Bey didn't perform as well this summer as hoped.

Bey didn't perform as well this summer as hoped? By all accounts I've seen, he's rising and is performing better than expected.

In relevant national college basketball recruiting news, no. 1 high school pick Marvin Bagley III he committed to Duke in 2017. Duke is a serious Final 4 and championship pick.

What bothers me here is that Duke will let him play with Danny Ferry's retired number 35. What's the point of retiring a number if you let some one and done use it later? Bagley talks about Duke being a "special place", but if he feels that way, then he should respect those who came before him and pick a new number. Geez!

It IS hard to imagine that a student-ATHLETE would turn down an offer to attend a top-notch school that happens to compete in a "power" conference in order to attend another top-notch school which happens to play in a minor conference (Ivy). Obviously, Llewellyn must have his reasons to do so but it is hard to imagine which are those reasons (academics is NOT one of them, since Stanford is at least every bit as good as Princeton academically). Presumably he not only values education (which either school would fulfill) but also the sport he plays....and there isn't any doubt that athletically the PAC-12 is VERY far above the Ivy league.

On a side note, I wonder why didn't NU OFFER Llewellyn...yes, NU now has the commitment of Lathon who may be a similar player....BUT NU did NOT know back when offers started going out that Lathon would eventually choose NU (he only did so weeks ago)...how could the coaches back then know that would happen? It would seem that Llewellyn has the exact academic/athletic profile to deserve an NU OFFER (whether he would have accepted it or not is besides the point).

Probably wanted to play in the bigger arena....Jawdin Gym 6,854 > new WRA 6,800

"The L. Stockwell Jadwin Gymnasium is a 6,854-seat multi-purpose arena at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey."

I like the roof with three interlocking shells. It looks like the Sydney Opera House.

Jadwin Gym replaced Dillon Gym as the home of Princeton BB about 1970. It is a multipurpose facility with an indoor track ,much like the old McGaw Hall

I had season tickets for Princeton BB during the Bill Bradley years. I would get to Dillon early, climb up a 30 foot drain pipe, and hide in a window well behind heavy curtains until the crowd arrived. I would then get a pass out stub, that would allow re-entry , go outside and scalp my ticket-those were the days

NU did offer Llewellyn...
Good...
From the date of your own sources it seems the offer is very recent (a couple months ago)...which is probably why some major recruiting sites do not yet register an NU offer (for example, 247 <---). By then it seems he had close to 20 D1 offers, including from most "power" conferences.

Two months is not "very recent" in recruiting terms. You're just trying to wiggle out and make yourself look good.

It is extremely recent compared to the date offers for his class started going out...Best I can tell, his first major-conference offer was reported back in August 2015 (yes, that means two years ago).

Maybe Collins was TOO busy chasing GRAD transfers?!!

The increased recognition started in the winter/spring. Not performing well over the summer isn't the end of the world. D.J. Harvey had a poor summer after his junior year and he's been the talk of preseason workouts/scrimmages at ND this summer. For what it's worth, the ND fans who follow recruiting more closely than I do think Horton-Tucker is the better prospect and wish ND was in NU's position with him.

i think a young core of lathon, gaines, kopp, rap, nance is phenominal

i think if you can add an athlete like bey you do so. but there is also no bigs on the horizon and it would be great to add a skilled big even if his role is only as a back-up.

fun time for NU basketball

Are you implying that Kopp is close to a done deal?

"Reclassifying" is a fantastic thing. Did he just magically acquire the credits to graduate?

Anyone who thinks Duke has similar (not even the same) academic standards for basketball players as the general student population is nuts.

I know this. But I assume you need four years of, say, high school English, in every state and for every admission to every university. Can Duke fudge on "has a high school diploma"?

How, when your senior year of high school has just begun, can you - poof! - have acquired that credit? And why did you just figure out reclassifying now? (Football players typically plan in advance to do it. You don't just "decide.")

Jontay Porter did the same thing to join his brother at Mizzou. And yes, it takes some planning -- you've got to position yourself with extra credits in advance. But it's not all that hard -- I graduated from high school in three years -- I just took a full course load every semester instead of taking study hall, like most of my friends. Then I took one summer school class and that gave me the credits I needed to graduate after my junior year. I applied for "early admission" to NU in the fall of my junior year and got in. So it can be done fairly easily IF you plan ahead.

Haywood's has hinted that NU is in the best shape with Kopp of the remaining targets. His last comment was Kopp and a developmental big.
