My friend used to use that reference every time Bob Christian played against DetroitThey always had the Christians vs Lions as a brunch matchup too.
This is a good point, I'd imagine that the Big Ten and both schools wanted to use this as a way of promoting the new trophy game.Hype the new trophy game? Maybe they will sport the retro unis….![]()

And for FOX, having a top 10 Michigan is always easy to put on national TV.
You sent your kid to Michigan...is this Chris Hinton? This is TheC Bowl. TheC's school against TheC Jr's school. That's worthy of network coverage.
Hopefully JON is coaching like his job is on the line and finding our best 11, and then the best players to rotate. If we can shut down Rutgers, it’s a whole new season and we’ll then battle Michigan like we usually do.
Ho boy. We shouldn’t get ahead of Rutgers but let’s look at the games under Fitz:Given that we're 1-11 against Michigan over the past 20 years, "battling Michigan like we usually do" is perhaps not ideal.
Cat's need a stellar showing against Rutgers before even thinking about Michigan.Ho boy. We shouldn’t get ahead of Rutgers but let’s look at the games under Fitz:
- 2018: we had a 17-0 lead and lost by 3
- 2015: blowout (bad loss)
- 2014: lost by 1, I was there, could have easily won (McCall)
- 2013: lost by 8 (officials should have called a flag on their tying FG)
- 2012: lost by 7 (Gardner threw the best pass of his career
- 2011: lost by 18 (bad loss, PersaStrong)
- 2008: won by 7!
- 2007: we led 16-7 at one point, lost by 12
- 2006: lost by 14 (Fitz’s trial by fire season)
So there are two bad losses (2011 and 2015). 2006 & 2007 were pre-Hankwitz and still contested.
We could have won in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2018 - and arguably should have.
Let’s hope for another Cardiac Cat battle in 2021. Keep the faith!

Let’s give them a Chicago rooftop.Cat's need a stellar showing against Rutgers before even thinking about Michigan.
2013 was inexcusable. The refs must have owed a bookie bigtime. There is no loss that angers me more than 2013. That field goal was a sham. Half their line was sliding when the ball was snapped!
