I missed this Jon Rothstein tweet yesterday. Okoro, a four-star center in 2018, is from Normal, Ill., and would have two years of eligibility remaining.

What are the chances that we would beat Illinois out for him? Per Rivals we didn't offer him out of high school, but Illinois did.

High school recruiting rarely seems to impact the same recruit as a transfer. I don’t think the lack of an offer in high school would matter.

Watching him at Oregon, he isn't that good. Little offensive game. Good rebounder and defender. Would be a decent addition but not a program changer.

Verbal Commits shows that both Illinois and NU offered.

We need beef inside. He might not be an offensive juggernaut but if he is willing to play a role protecting the rim a little, defending and rebounding, he's an asset.

Okoro has already said that he is sitting out this coming season to recover from injury. Needs shoulder surgery. Had a rough year. Dad passed away and he was also hit by a car.

So he’s a sit one, play two guy. I guess if the coaches want him, it’s ok. But I’m not a big fan of his game. I’d be good with passing on him. Purdue wants him and they finished second on him the first recruitment.

Wow. Tough year. Hope the future is brighter for him.

Seems like a guy who could make a lot of sense for NU.

This seems pretty much what we had in Jared Jones, yet many on the board are claiming that we don't need this type of contribution and this skill set is not a value add for NU. If people think Jones would get zero minutes behind Young and Nicholson, why would we this guy would get more than 5-7 mins and contribute?

I don't know anyone who said that about Jones. I think people are trying to understand why Jones is suddenly in the transfer portal, and many are guessing that he wants more playing time. I'm willing to bet that 90% or more of the fans here would love to keep Jones.

I was referring more to the argument that Young and Nicholson are so entrenched at the 5 that there would be no minutes for Jones.

I meant more in terms of a guy who could theoretically transfer closer to home after a tough year or two and is more of a developmental guy.

Well he would need to sit out a year and not play until 2022. Young gone. Nicholson?

Young is a redshirt freshman who would be a junior in 2021-22, so he would still be there for both of Okoro's years should he become a Cat. Nicholson would obviously be there, too.

I'm just salty because I liked Jared Jones and thought he would be a real contributor as a Junior/Senior. I remember watching our heart breaking overtime loss against Rutgers and thinking that Jones was going to be a player one day.

I’m hearing that Okoro is going to Illinois State. Not totally confirmed but would make sense. Has family in Normal and probably a good level for him.

This is a baffling decision. If you're struggling at the high D-1 level, isn't that a sign that maybe you won't be going to the NBA? At that point, why not take the degree from Northwestern, Texas, U of I, or Purdue? All of which would provide an excellent education and open so many more doors post basketball? And I mean no disrespect to Illinois state, but some of the schools on his list are just fundamentally different from a 40 year career perspective.

I saw his dad passed away. I hope he has other family or mentors who can counsel him on this point.

Sounds like ISU. Based on his lack of success at Oregon probably a good fit for him. Although since he isn’t going to likely play beyond college seems like maybe he should be looking for a nice degree vs a few extra minutes of playing time

Announced for SLU at the last minute. Had already told friends at ISU he was coming. SLU swooped in late.
