This is now becoming truly incredible. Bednar given away to the Yankees for 3 bums, one of whom is a triple a 25 year old catcher who can't catch. Heaney given away for two kids in low a ball.

How does major league baseball continue to allow this? At this point this has to be borderline malphesance. Don't they have to step in at some point and force this thief to put a competitive club in the field?

Wow. Even after factoring in your frustration as a Pirates fan, outrage is the only rational response. Dang. No money involved?

“The Pirates will receive three minor leaguers for Bednar: catching prospects Rafael Flores and Edgleen Pérez and center fielder Brian Sanchez in the deal as they seek to replenish their farm system with potential impact bats to supplement the club's strong organizational pitching depth.”

Flores is a 25 year old catcher who struck out in triple a more than ONeil Cruz struck out in MLB. He also was used as a DH only because of his lack of catching skills. The other two are under 20 years old and I've of them weighs about 165 pounds.

None of this is exaggerated. It's just become so bad and so obvious now that it's no wonder ESPN showed that crowd at Steelers camp yesterday chanting "F Bob Nutting".

You can’t be fleeced if you know it is a one sided trade and don't give AF.

The Pirates have been "replenishing the farm system" for the past two or three decades. If these prospects from the Yankees blossom into something, they'll be traded in a few years under the guise of "replenishing the farm system". If the prospects don't blossom, they'll be just another footnote in the Pirates poor trade history.

17 saves for the Pirates! That's like 100 saves for a real team!

Why the eff would they trade Bednar for unproven prospects when he is still under club control for another season?

Pirates are 8 and 2 in the last ten games. Why try to build something for the future? Tgar hates the ******* hair dyed maggot. Cherington is also worthless.

The fact that at the end of the day:
Pham
Heaney
and
Kiner-Falefa
are still on the squad, should be a fireable offense

Not to mention the "less than robust" returns he got on the players he did trade away.

Simply giving away Pham Heaney and IKF would have been a marked improvement - save some $ and open more playing time for anyone who might be able to benefit from the playing time to improve for next year (or even to see that they stink, so you know that going into the off season)

The fact is that Pham should have been able to yield a half decent prospect (he has actually been playing lights out over the last 6 weeks or so - since he got new lenses :) )
And even a #5 starter arm like Heaney should have been worth a lottery ticket - same for IKF.

There were no reasonable expectations of any groundbreaking moves to be made. But that is pure incompetence on the part of the Bucco "brain trust". Stunning.

How Cherington still has a job tonight is just incomprehensible.

Agree with this, but things like the return in the Bednar trade annoys me more than keeping the other older guys. If a contender doesn’t want to pay to improve themselves, let them take their chances with what they think they are lacking.

With the trades and retaining the expiring contract the salary savings going into next year is approximately $40 - 50 mil. Right into the owners pocket….that was the objective not making the team better!

MLB has to step in at some point and force Nutting to sh^t or get off the pot. This is like the movie “Major League”. The difference is there isn’t enough talent on the roster to make a run and smear it in the owners face.
