I feel for the guy. Never was a pitcher but did get hit in the face by a pitch when I was younger.

I always hated batting and to a lesser extent pitching in little league. Always was nervous about taking a pitch in the head. I never got hit while pitching until I played a pickup game with some much bigger dudes. One guy drilled it back at me and hit right near my right shoulder. That hurt a lot and I couldn't move my arm after it. About 6" up and over and I would have taken it right in the head. I'm surprised they don't make pitchers wear a protective helmet.

I took one off of the side of my face while pitching in a slow pitch tournament in Ardmore Oklahoma about20 years ago or so. Hit my ear and jaw. I Was taken to the hospital there and had some x-rays done and the doctor said I had some internal bleeding in the ear but, it had stopped. No fractures as he said I had a hard head. My wife agreed with that statement. I looked like the elephant man for about a week but was playing again the next weekend in a tournament in Lawton OK. People (including my wife) said I was crazy for being back out there so soon.

Blake Bramblet in Etown was huge for his age and could throw hard as it gets for that age but zero control. Hit me square in the head with a pitch. Honestly surprised I didn’t get a concussion or brain damage, wait….

In 1961, Larry Jackson pitched to Duke Snider. Jackson sawed the bat off in Sniders
hands. The sharp end of the barrel of the broken bat went through Jackson's jaw, breaking it in two places. Three weeks later, Jackson teammate Bob Gibson hit Snider with a pitch, breaking his elbow.
