I think a lot of our fans were way too quick to write off Purdue as some kind of joke team based on an exhibition game that they clearly approached as an experiment to learn from and not a win at all costs scenario. They’re good.

That being said, Bama is going to have a very small margin for error against top competition if they can’t figure out a way to get a few more rebounds. As deep as they are at guard, they’re pretty thin in the frontcourt, and all those second chances for Purdue were the biggest difference in the game tonight.

I don’t know! Stating the obvious with Pope’s teams is not really quitting. It’s simply; stating the obvious. UK will not be able to guard Bama and UK will not shoot well. 🤷‍♂️

Because we were expecting 40-0.

I saw this posted on another board check out below.

Is there still Hope in Pope? Personally I think he’s a dope. He’s down to the end of his rope. He needs to cleanse this team with a bar of soap. Now I can’t cope and all I can do is mope so do we keep him? I say nope.

kinda clever, but also kind of childish I think

Really is. Been a member since 2003 but this years whinyness is at all time point of negativity for 3 games in.
maybe because we see the writing on the wall, stop trying to make this team the dream team, its a bunch of players that wouldnt sniff past kentucky teams and wont see an nba floor

Didn't see this one coming, I figure Bama would win this one going away. This is why I don't gamble.

But, this is going to happen to everyone this year. Look like world beaters one night and a pile of crap the next.

Bama beat St Johns on a neutral the other day and I like SJ better than Purdon't, but some teams just match up better than others.

What writing? Which teams did you think were sure bets going into the 4th game to win it all. Just a year ago we had fans that got livid over the mention of the NBA. A month ago, this team hung the moon and was a sure thing. This gut ripping on our team has reached an all time low. We have folks crapping in their faces after the third game.

Which leaves the question. Are some Kentucky fans this ignorant and petty or has the forum once again been polluted with crap fans from other teams?

so actually you described the opposite of me, ive had a wave of pessimism this yr bc of s couple things i personally dont like, also im not one of those fans that hate the nba im the opposite, give me all of the nba players, i j domt have the confidence i used to

the only REAL issue i have, is that when we lose games now, it isnt bc of a coaching issue its a talent issue, and its a sour feeling when the players just dont have it but the coach does, its the opposite of the last decade

I think the main issue is, we're tired of us getting blown out. And UofL could have easily (and was heading to be a blow out). I mean I know GT technically doesn't count but that was a blowout.

Its starting to become a bit concerning.

I didn’t say hate the NBA, I meant hated recruiting groups of NBA first rounders. Also one game doesn’t support the condemnation that the players don’t have it. What you are seeing now it college basketball in the semipro era. New teams each year. Some taking longer to gel than others.

I think the assumption that this team is playing at its very best is simply ridiculous. We haven’t seen them close to their best as yet. Publicly bashing our talent levels before they have put their best game on the floor is just silly. Just look at the boards reaction after Purdue and the hysteria after Georgetown. It’s embarrassing. This ain’t some corner pub in Paintsville KY. This site is read nationwide.

Maybe this will be our legacy in the semipro era. ‘They ate their young’.

Purdue absolutely abused them on the glass and the uber efficiency of Smith and TKR was able to keep their scoring consistent while Bama would ebb and flow extremes with their 3 point runs/cold spells.

Not a huge believer in Bama this year. Oats will keep them in contention but they feel a piece short to me. Gotta keep their big 4 healthy with Philon, Wrightsell, Holloway, and Bol Bowen. A lot of JAGs after those guys.

Dont call them "Purdon't". They deserve respect, as their fan base hates iu more than UK's fans.

A lot depends on if JQ is back. Bama's guards are amazing but their frontcourt is nothing to write home about.
The season does not hinge on JQ. I know he's probably our best player, but he's likely only playing 20-25 minutes when healthy.

Team defense and playing like we give a dang will be the keys to the season. The fellas gotta lock in.

Found the sunshine pumper! Bask in it! Pope will miraculously learn how to coach defense and basketball IQ, I’m sure. Like others have said, let’s hope that JQ is a demon on Defense because they need it.
Defense last year went from terrible (120-ish IIRC) to 51st. That's not great as an average, but the defense had to become a top 15 unit in the second half of that season to create that defensive average and balance out how horrific it was to start out. What are you talking about? Defense came along.

Exactly. Pope showed he can coach defense. There aren't very many teams that can shoot up 70 positions in hslf a season like last years team did and they did it while dealing with injuries and in the toughest conference in our lifetime.

Too many people are overreacting to one game.

I agree, though I understand the frustration since we lost to our lil brother. The season is far from over, though. I dunno how many seasons with Cal I wrote off and then we made a final four to everyone's surprise. 2011, 2014...?

It sucks to lose to anyone, and the Louisville game should never again be played this early in the season, but I'm far from giving up on this squad.

Chandler is shooting like Brea. Moreno is significantly better than we thought he'd be and he seems to be learning and evolving each game. Oweh won't be in a slump forever. Kam caught fire and has something to build on. JQ will be back in January, at the latest. Lowe has time to recover since we have Aberdeen and plenty of cupcakes to get Chandler and JJ some minutes at the 1. We haven't even seen Jelly at half his potential. MoD is a bulldog that Pope and staff will get right. Trent has the heart of a lion and has yet to show his shooting prowess in-game. Garrison... is good depth (I don't mean to rag on him, but the fans expected more and I've heard from colleagues that attend practices that he tends to go through motions — that's scuttlebutt, so take it for what it's worth).

We had our best player play his worst game as a Cat and we still came back from 20-point deficits. Bad teams don't do that against top 10 opponents. There are just too many pieces right now for me to call the season a wash.

We were also at like #4 defensively until Louisville popped us in the nuts. There's a lot of movement on those rankings in the early season. Doesn't mean they're indicative of end-of-season success, but the Kenpom numbers mean about as much to me at this point of the season as the word of a politician.
